F10 Software update with BMW ConnectedDrive

Just an FYI. After the dealer last programmed my car with ISTA/P 2.45.1.3, my Combox Software was at MX 3.4.31 & TX 3.4.31. I did the previous UPD01004 update afterwards, which had brought it up to MX 3.5.4 & TX 3.5.4.

However, when I just went out to apply the UPD01005 update, I was surprised to see my current version was reverted back to MX 3.4.31 & TX 3.4.31.

It's clear now that what happened is that when VO Coding my Combox, it reset the Combox Software to match the version included with the ISTA/P 2.45.1.3 Integration Level of the car, and wiped out the previously applied UPD01004 update.

Now after applying the UPD01005 update, it brought it up to MX 3.5.4 & TX 3.5.5.

So, if you VO Code your CMB_MEDIA ECU, you will need to reaapply the latest UPDxxxxx update afterwards.

Could you please explain what they stand for?

VO is Vehicle Order (aka FA in E-Sys)

The Combox controls all USB/iPod, Bluetooth, and in the case of Telematics Combox, BMW Assist. All those functions interact with the iDrive system.

ISTA/P is the factory and dealer software used to update your ECU firmwares and program your car.

CMB_MEDIA is the Combox ECU (module) Programming / Coding Name, along with CMB_ECALL for Telematics (BMW Assist)

When you VO Code an ECU, E-Sys will code the entire ECU based on the VO's Option Codes and Production Date, all at once. When you FDL code, you are changing only individual parameters. VO Coding is convenient when you don't know all the required FDL Codes to do something, or there are just a bunch of FDL Codes, and it's easier to just add an Option Code to the VO and VO Code the affected ECU's.
