2013 no more twin turbo
Was at the dealer today and the associate was telling me that the new 13 models do not have twin turbo anymore. When/why did BMW go to single turbo? Was it 2011 or just this year? I always thought twin turbos gave the car more power.

...the 35i was never a twin-turbo. E70 never got the N54. E70 has always had the N55, ever since the LCI
The only twin-turbo E70s they have left are the 50i and 35d. N55 uses a twin-scroll single turbo setup.

I guess I interpreted the "Twinpower Turbo Technology" at bmwusa incorrectly.

Twin scroll turbo, their naming convention isn't the clearest.

actually I believe 35d is not technically twin-turbo, but bi-turbo (with different size of turbos)

Bi-turbo usually refers to using the same size turbos and the run independently driven by the exhuast of certain cylinders, like the N54 uses 2 turbos, each being driven off the exhaust of 3 of the cylinders or the older Audi 2.7T where each half of the V6 had a turbo. The M57 in the 35d does use different size turbos in a sequential setup.

well, English is not my first language (obviously), but twin-turbo means for me that the two turbos are THE SAME (twin) size

Right, the same as a bi-turbo, you're referring to a parallel twin-turbo config.

OK, what is the correct nomenclature for turbo setup in 35d? it is not twin-turbo (different size turbos), it is not in your opinion bi-turbo (although prefix "bi" means just two)

It's a sequential turbo config

I've read that the twin scroll turbo was better than the N54 twin turbo on the 5 series forums. Same power output as previous with the torque band starting at 1,200 rpm instead of 1,500 rpm.
