I really doubt that...ESS , VF and companies of that sort really test these vehicles to maximum capacity. They keep boost down (6-7psi) because of that exact reason. They make reliable hp for the enthusiast that want a little more.

Original owner had it special ordered when they bought it new.. I was thinking the same thing when I bought the car but they had all the paperwork through dealership to show the top change. They also changed the plastic cover piece to grey too. I actually like the black and was thinking of changing it or dying it. If I did though I would have to change the cover piece back to black too... But then again probably gonna sell it within this year it, and get into a M6.. I drove my buddies and can't stop thinking about the performance.

I wanted to dye my roof too (it has some sun damage), but its nearly impossible, easier to get a new roof. They go for around $1000 - $1200 on eBay. I thought your roof got discolored. I wonder if people in Arizona have that problem? You could offer to swap roofs with someone who has a grey car... just a thought. Good luck on getting an ///M!

Yup, VF never officially released a SC for our car. I believe that was their first car (test vehicle) with that unit. I had pics. of that car somewhere but I can't find it. Maybe the owner has decided to sell the kit .

I would be skeptical of this offering. If they do not have an official release of it then this may be their project unit up for sale and who knows what sort of issues you can run into. ESS seems to be more reputable in their offering. Plus the EBAY listing does not show much in terms of all the parts that comes with the package, just a write up. Personally I wouldn't bite on this one without more proven data. 9K is a lot of money to throw out the door because of a listing.

Exactly...plus VF (big plans which lost steam) were to change over to roots type SC. The same unit ESS is using.

The ESS Supercharger looks very nice. I would get the ESS over this VF version. It will be out within the next 2 months. It's probably going to cost about the same price as this offerenig...

I'm so excited I've been waiting for a reliable kit for 3 years and we now might just have one. Maybe we should start a group buy for when it's officially released. If anyone is planning on doing this, count me in! 2mofast, you seem to be on top of this on both forms... maybe you can coordinate a group buy between the guys from both forums when the time comes. Let us know...

The Vinyl portion of the convertible boot was grey on all 645's just like the interior Vinyl dash and door panels. The 2006 650 was the first 6 with black intrior pieces. I have seen plenty of grey roofs on grey cars. Looks great with a red interior. I have never seen a grey roof on a black car before. If you described it to me, I would cringe...but seeing the picture..I kind of like it.

Yeah Sinist3r, I'm really looking into this kit. Not sure what the price is going to be set at but hoping it's reasonable. As soon as it's released, I'm sure ESS is going to put up a group buy in order the move these units quick. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

its a nice thought buy ill pass,

serious question for those considering one, why would you go with a SC for 10 to 15K installed, risk losing the warrenty your car may have, when you could trade your car in on a M6 and be about the same HP and still spend about the same if not less as the end of the day.

for me its seems like alot of agravation when an easier maybe cheaper solution is availible.

also why are SCs and TCs availible for about 5 grand for every other car on the planet but not for ours. i refuse to belive that you can get a quality turbo charger for a GTR for half for what the ESS may run

I agree with you m4hk33 on some of your points such as the value. But the value varies depending on what your situation is with the car. Most will not put the SC on a car that they still have the warranty on or that they are leasing, but considering if you owned out right an older model that is already paid for, why trade up to a M6 if you cannot afford it? For example, you buy a 645 now for 22K invest another 15K you would have spent 37K total for a car that is going to give a 50K+ M6 depending on year, a run for it's money. Granted, it's no M6 because of the other missing bells and whistles but you would have a 6 that you owned and paid less for over all that puts out some significant power. This is the reasoning for some people and it makes sense depending on that persons situation. If I had the space and time I would probably do this as a project on a older 6. A friend of mine has a 1988 M3 that will smoke the newer M3's. He will not buy a newer one even though it may offer more but he got what he needs from his '88. he would always race the newer ones and the owners would always want to see what the heck he's got under the hood.

Valid points guys, but I hope to answer this without starting a battle/war...should have got an M instead debate. I enjoy modding cars and I have done so w/all the cars I've owned. I enjoy the car game, the good & the bad that comes w/modifying. I personally love my 645 when I bought and still do,3yrs. later. If there is something available to make my car faster and I find it worthwhile, then I'm going for it. It boils down to personal enjoyment. Aftermarket parts are almost never an invest but to the buyer it may be - his personal gratification. I'm not sure what the price of the SC will be but if cost is affordable, then I'm on it. BTW, ESS is doing a SC for the M6 as well and some people are for it and others are saying the same thing, "Why...just take the money and get something faster".lol. Hey, you never win

No one knows the actual price this kit will cost when it comes to market, so this whole post is irrelevant until we get accurate pricing. All we have is pure speculation right now. Even if it does cost 10k or 15k for a supercharger, it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day its all about options. If you ask why make a supercharger, then I will ask why not make a supercharger? Some e46 members dropped M3 engines into their 325's and actually ended up costing more than the actual M3. Sometimes people just want something different and unique and made custom for them. There are a lot more M6's on the road than supercharged 6-series where the "unique" factor comes into play. To each their own...

I am definitely interested if the price is right!

I dont think it will be a viable choice unless the SC is priced at a bargain cost. One more thing to really consider besides everything else posted above is the serious potential issues related to the gear box, especuially the ever so problem some auto-trannies. very liekly it will blow up the gear box unless its specifically tuned to the right specification, yet still, risky. Plus dont forget the reduced longetivity of the engines. I d rather pay 5K extra for a better car. Ive been very passionately chasing VF and ESS(norway) directly. and they are not sure if they are going to continue with the project.
regards
irfan

Interesting.

I'd love to SC my 645ci. It would probably cause me to keep my car a little longer. I love all the aspects of this car, but wish there was a little more being offered for power out there. And I agree, I don't know if I will be spending the 9K on a SC, these aren't 60-70k cars anymore. I think the 5-7k range is a bit more feasible.

Exclamation E63 Supercharged by ESS (2005 645)

I've done quite a bit of research and found a reliable/known shop that has installed more than two dozen of the ESS SuperChargers in BMW's (many of them in 6 series). The shop is here in Chicago and the mechanics are real pros... majority of them worked for high profile BMW dealers in the area.

The installed price for the TVS2 7psi version is about $9,500 (just under 10K), that includes the software cable and programming.

Reading some of the earlier threads, I would say this is a project for someone that doesn't care about the warranty so much. If you love the car, you'll likely keep it beyond the warranty period anyway. I am that kind of guy. I've always found the 6 more appealing in terms of body, comfort and drivability for the price.

If anyone is interested in the Spring time for a group buy, please reach out. I am seriously looking in the March/April time frame if anyone is interested (and doesn't mind the wait). The units are sold in the US but fabricated in Norway at the ESS main plant. Installation should be done by your local authorized ESS dealer and usually takes about 14 hours of shop time.

Best,
Bavarian72 (Chicago)
