E83 Interior Swap
I bought my silbergrau X3, which had everything I wanted except an interior in a coordinating color. Rather than tobacco (dark brown), I really wanted black/gray (black interior with gray seats and door inserts), which was a color combination never offered. Undeterred, I created it myself from a salvage set of seats and door panels.
The other interior niggle was the dark wood trim, which offered a less sporting appearance than aluminum, and the smooth black vinyl surfaces, which are dust magnets. I applied two contrasting shades of carbon fiber film to achieve the appearance I sought and hide light dust on the dashboard. While I was at it, I replaced the gearshift knob with a stubby ZHP alternative (for slightly shorter throws) and the steering wheel (SAV package version, for its leather spokes and aluminum trim). |

nice swap, probably cost you some coin though. I would sell the other interior set if you haven't done so already to make some of that money back.
Almost identical X3 (besides terracota interior)

Funny, I was trying to find a X3 with the Brown interior you had or Terracotta. I ended up with Black on Black.
Did you find someone to swap out interiors with? Last edited by 883sportster; 11-09-2012 at 06:38 AM. |

I also wanted brown or terracotta but wound up with black on black in spite of telling myself that I would never have a b-on-b interior car again! So much for that. Anyway my next car will not be b-on-b!

I still have all the tobacco leather (chocolate brown, not terra cotta) to resell, except for the center armrest (which I dyed black). That consists of front sport seats (heated and complete except for plastic trim around outer seat track), rear seat bottom (also heated), outer rear seat back cushions (the pieces which don't fold), seat covers for folding sections of the rear seat back, and armrests and leather door panel inserts for all 4 doors. Leather is in remarkably good condition for the 82,000 miles on the vehicle; there's only minor stretching on the driver's seat bottom. I've had the X3 <10,000 miles, so credit goes to the first two owners.
I also have the wood trim for 3 of 4 door handles (all but driver's door) from the donor X3 (gray poplar, I believe). I threw away all of the gray pieces I didn't use. I have no particular use for the items I replaced and put in the attic. I've not posted the items for sale, but I'm open to offers to get them off my hands and recoup some of my cost. |

That's a very cool interior, reminds me of an M5 with the Silverstone leather.
Mine is gray interior with aluminium trim and I love it, but two-tone door panels are cool. |
