2013 BMW X5 vs bird poop

This is my first post, so hello everyone! Well two weeks ago purchased my first BMW, X5 35i M-Sports Package, and I have to say I LOVE IT! Wish I would have had the money to drive a BMW my whole life. Anyway, while out and about on Saturday got a nice big bird poop on the hood. It was overcast and about 75 degrees so wasn't that worried about it. Sunday morning cleaned the poop off and it had etched the paint. The damage was smooth to the touch, but looked dull at an angle. Took it to the dealer and they were able to buff the damage out yesterday. They also applied some product that keeps this from occuring (which it was supposted to have had initially). I never had this issue with the 2 Chevrolets, Honda, GMC, and Nissan vehicles I owned in the past. Still LOVE the BMW though, but be careful out there guys with bird poop!!!

What products can they apply to prevent birds from pooping on your car?

My two previous BMW's had issues with bird poop acid etching the paint.. Its is more evident on darker colored paint.
I've learned to always keep a detailer spray bottle in the truck to wipe the bird crap at first sight.

^^ Bird poo is very alkaline, it will eat into the clearcoat if you leave it too long. Thats why you need to have a good coat of wax on the X5

hot hot hot water will take care of most of it, the rest spray with detailer and wipe clean.

Best thing you could do is to get a spray bottle of water and leave it in the trunk. If a bird ever drops a brick on my car, I'll hit it with the water asap.

I know it works with cats, but doesn't the bird fly away before you can spray it?

I meant on the poop

I found out what they treated the paint with, it is called Xzilon (Xylon). According to the guys at my local BMW I don't have to ever wax it again. Which I think is a bunch of BS, but I am definitely keeping a close eye on the poop and making sure it doesn't sit for too long. I live about an hour from the ocean so we get the occasional steven seagull with extra acidic poop roaming around.

Anything is good to use just as long as you get it off quickly. A spray bottle of windex and a roll of paper towels is in the back of my car just for that purpose -- and also to clean the windshield should I happen through a cloud of gnats. Seagulls are even worse than crows -- something about all that fish they eat......
