Need help on leatherette driver's seat cushion.

Is it really true that the best you can do price wise for vinyl is about $300, not leather, VINYL?
My son just bought his first BMW, a 2008 328XI, like his Mom's, but it's got 82,000 miles and a cut in the thigh bolster, almost on the seam of the leatherette cushion. I thought leatherette was supposed to be almost bulletproof.

[Are there any after market alternatives besides used? [/B]He has black that to me looks very charcoal, not black. I can do the labor for him, to help him out, but I'm amazed at the cost of the upholstery covers.

Why not just get the seat repaired by one of those mobile guys. I had a guy come do mine, it's pretty cheap, they do a great job. Fix cracks, scratches etc etc. Also, nothing is bullet proof apart from bullet proof stuff :P ahhaha Seats wear and tear depending on use and how you look after them.
