so Parts are about $100/axle/Pad in Ebay
What are the installation cost per axle through an independent Tech? if rotor replacement also needed, then part is about $100/rotor/axle -- How much for additional install cost per axle? Last edited by coolguy1; 10-29-2012 at 04:23 PM. |

Thats way too much money for the rotors. I did front brakes with the rotors changed and it cost me about 270 with sensor and other parts.

Man... It's soo tough to find a normal pricing anywhere w/ Independent Techs.. You have to make zillion calls and each ones pricing is sooo different. Once you move to a new place, the hunt begins all over. I have few things to take care: Break Pads, oil change, filters, brake fluid etc.. Each place offers very different prices lol.

im sure the quality of work/experience also varies with price so also take that into account. however, if you can, do the brakes and oil change your self, its very easy.

(I can't believe anyone could do that) I wonder how wierd that would feel braking. The things people do to reduce weight! |

How does BMW know that I need to replace my brake in 3000 miles??
Does it actually measure the thickness, or the computer assumes how much has worn off? And, if measured, how accurate is it? How far can I do past the "due date?" |

The break sensor is designed to wear off at specific rate, that's how the computer determines how long you have before new pads are needed.

Crazy part is, when I changed my pads I noticed there's so much pad left on them that any other car without a sensor can go about 15k miles more with those pads.

Did you replace pads, or pads and rotors? I NEVER replace rotors until they give me a problem such as warped. So usually its two sets of pads for each set of rotors. |

Same philosophy here, don't need new rotors until warped.
