2013 BMW M5: Twin-Clutch Transmission or Manual?
Was the new M5 designed with the right transmission? Carlos Lago tests the the six-speed manual to see if it couldn't be better off with a dual-clutch transmission. While not every car is better with a dual-clutch, such as the Mazda Miata and Subaru BRZ, many of those designed with a dual-clutch transmission, like the Ferrari 458 Italia, wouldn’t be better with a manual. As expected, the manual-transmission-equipped M5 is about a half-second slower to 60 mph and in the quarter-mile versus the dual-clutch car with launch control, but as Lago explains, those who buy a manual transmission over a dual-clutch aren’t buying it because it’s faster, rather they are buying the car for the driving experience of shifting it themselves. So what does Lago conclude about the 2013 BMW M5 with the six-speed manual transmission? Check out the video above to find out! What do you conclude? |
