Replacement exhaust tips?

Greetings! New member here and very happy to find such a knowledgable community here on the web. We recently purchased an 09 328i convertible and really enjoy the feel of the this car!! While doing some detail work this weekend, I noticed one of the twin exhaust tips was damaged. It looks like the lower lip of the D.S. tip is pushed forward about 1/2". Fortunately the actual pipe is fine and not even scratched. Is anyone familiar with how the tips are mounted and if replacements are available? I'll get a pic of the tip posted asap. Here is our new addition!

BMW exhaust tips are usually snap riveted. The rivets need to be drilled out and removed then the exhaust tip can be pulled off. The muffler will need to be dropped or removed to get to all of the rivets. The replacement tips can be sourced from number of places, both OEM and aftermarket. The replacement tip is then secured with new snap rivets.

A muffler shop may be able to do this for you.

Thanks for the quick rely. I've been digging around and it looks like removing the muffler or at least dropping it down is a must. I'll look a little closer at the muffler tonight to see what the attachments look like and what I'll need to do to get a drill onto the rivets.

This may be a good time to upgrade the exhaust as an alternative solution. I'd recommend that you check out the Rogue Engineering IKON Exhaust for the BMW E90/92 325i/328i/330i. It's one of the more affordable setups out there and it'll improve the sound and performance on the car!

There's a very good chance the tip is held in place by nothing more than friction, a tight fit. You may be able to reposition the tip with just a little force and elbow grease. Good luck. Congrats on your car and welcome to the 'fest.

They used to be just friction on the single sided exhaust cars - you could just pull really hard and they would come off and replacements are about $35, not sure if they started attaching them more permanently in the last few years or not.

My '06 didn't come with exhaust tips. I ordered a pair and they probably would have stayed on purely from friction (I had to actually heat them up to get them on at all), but they included a screw on the bottom to help ensure they stay put once installed. Not sure if BMW is actually riveting them on now for some reason, but check the underside of each tip, up near the front, for a simple philips screw before you get too far.

Rust and spring clips hold them on. To remove OE exhaust tips, a few light taps on a piece of wood positioned at the rear of each tip will loosen them up enough to pull out by hand.
