Starter

Hello, I have a 2006 750li that has starting problems. The delaer tells me I need a starter which dealer price is $750.00 Anyone have any experience with changing this and do you need any special parts. I've seen starters on line for $250.00 and don.t want to pay the high cost at the dealer. help.

What are the symptoms that make them think the starter is going bad? I think mine is on its way out and the dealer quoted $1,900. On the 760, you have to remove the exhaust manifold to get at the starter - 9 hour job.

wELL IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER, THE STARTER REPLACEMENT KOB IS $1740, AND THEY SAID IT WOULD TAKE A DAY, 9 TO 10 HOURS. hOPING THAT'S ALL THAT IS WRONG. i LOVE THE CAR BUT IT CAN BE EXPENSIVE. i HEARD A GUY THIS MORNING THOUGH SAY HE HAD A NISSAN AND THE STARTER FOR IT COSTED $500. i'LL TAKE THE BMW EVERYDAY. Did you get the starter replaced yet? My dealer had to order a starter from Germany and it's not here yet. I did the old tap-trick (lightly tap the starter with a broomstick) and it hasn't failed on my since, but that just confirmed that it really is the problem.
