Engine swaps?

I've seen a cheap 1996 BMW 318i Sedan, I have an '85 E30 318i wreck, are the engines interchangeable? They are both manuals.

So much will be different it won't make a lot of odds which way you are swaping. A nice 6 month project.

Uhhh I think that's where you take your engine out and give it to your friend for his. But I don't know..

That is when you swop out the light engine, you have currently in your car, for a heavier one to compensate for the well-filled Toolchest in your trunk

Isn't it when you swap your 'significant other' (wife gf etc) for a more powerful engine?

Not everyone knows the differences in engine mounts of the two models.

Aometimes I think I am better off not knowing & not particularly caring...

To be honest, engine mounts are 4-5 bolts each. If that was the case then go for it. That would be one of the easier things. If you want to save your E30 fix it with E30 parts. I think you can figure out the rest.

Were not trying to be rude but when you give us stupid questions on any forum your going to get responses like this. Why might you ask?

You have a M10B18 from factory 104 hp Then you ask if you could swap that into a 95 E36 which has a M43B18. Or did you mean the other way around? If so swap in a 325i motor and call it done.

I meant it that way. E30 into E36. Just wanted to check if the mounting bolts were the same, thanks for letting me know.

Engine mounts are the easy bit. Its all the electrics, connectors, senors and other related bits that are going to make it a loooooong and frustrating project (even if you go the 325 - then you have springs etc to swap). Stick with 'vehicle original' parts.
