2012, 528i Vibration at 65-80 mph.

I am dealing with a frustrating vibration on my 2012 528i, 17" wheels with Cont RFT. The car has a vibration at 65-80 mph on the road. Even on smooth fresh paved roads the car is doing the same thing. The vibration will go away at higher or lower speeds. The dealer told me i had a bent wheel which has been fixed. I was then told there was a tire out of balance which was fixed. They then balanced the tires again and no solve. Then the dealer had an engineer drive the vehicle. He ordered a new drive line and they replaced 1 tire. The car still had the vibration. Finally they replaced the Cont tires with GY tires, the vibration was better but still exsisted. I have now asked BMW to buy back the car as a lemon. Has anyone found anything that solves this issue? I recently drove a similar 528 on the lot that had the same vibration. I have 2 friends with 5 series vehicles that are not getting the same vibration.

Might want to take a look here http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=658315. Looks like user RDZumbaugh had a vibration issue with his 3 series and BMW bought it back. I have been lucky and have not had vibration issues or none that I have noticed. I have had my 528xi for almost 1 month and have put a little over 2000 miles on it with no issues. I have the same 17" Conti RFTs. I have driven mostly highway miles and have not noticed the vibration. How soon after owning the car did you notice the vibration? Sorry to hear you have to deal with this issue. Definitely stay on top of the dealer until it is resolved. I am sure other members can offer more insight.

I felt the vibration with about 700 miles in the vehicle and started to deal with it.

These cars are very sensitive to wheel imbalance in my experience. The "harmonic" that seems to be in play is centered around 70mph just as you describe.

I would definelty make sure that you attempt a HunterRoad Force balance, rather than any other balance. If the problem doesn't go away, keep on your dealer and force them to make it right or buy the car back.

I had this same issue with my 2013 328 as mentioned. After I got my final Trade Assist offer, the GM of the dealership told me that BMW has found a fix and identified which vehicle have been affected and will be shipping new front "racks" to dealers to perform the fix. If they do they Hard Road Balance and it is still vibrating, you're out of options. Call BMWNA to complain. It is a frustrating process but we don't spend this type of money on BMW's with this type of issue. I ordered a 2013 528 that is waiting on a ship - I'm hoping to god that it won't have this issue - if so, I'll walk away from BMW. Good Luck!!!

Hate to say this but its still a manuafacturing defect that is causing the vibration in the car around 70-80 mph. My 2011 BMW 535i xdrive had this and 4 defective (bent rims) were replaced and tires were changed 4x but the problem remained so the car was rid of. There is alot of post about this. If you went through all of this, the car is a lemon for sure and its a complaint at is all over the world for this car and its being going on for 2 years now with no resolution for those whom are still having this problem. Snj1013- all BMW dealers are aware of road force balancing and they do this by default and yes I and many people have done this and I was also aware of the sensitivity of this car but still with the road force in the single digits (less than 9 lbs in the rear which is suppose to give glass smooth ride on smooth newly paved asphalt, the BMW 5 I had would vibrate in the seats and it would tick my nerves so badly that it was totally unacceptable after 10-15 times going to the dealer and other road force specialists to get it resolved. To the OP, get rid of the car now and get another one. I have tried 2 demo 535i and they vibrated last year while 1 of them didn't.

I just picked the car up again and discovered that after changing from Cont to GY they only did a static balance. Not sure why the dealer would do this, I am going to have it road force balanced tomorrow. Already told BMW to lemon the car at this point.

Mein Auto: I'm still dreaming....
If your willing to keep at this problem, then you'll have to keep researching this forum for other ideas, and tell the SA to try them. Did they replace or rotate the struts?

OTOH, you deserve better....you didn't buy a Pinto or Gremlin.

I have now taken my car to a tire shop to have it road force balanced, since dealer did not do it on my 4th visit. They told me there were several issues and the left front was way off from road force. They told me in their "opinion" the car was 90%. Based on the feeling the car is 90%. Still a vibration however it feel lighter. This was my last "hail mary" I give up, just cant wait for BMW to buy this back. The dealership is not even trying to fix it at this point. They listed "operating as designed" on my paperwork.
