What does your e46 drive like?!
I got an e46 and im just trying to figure out how it's supposed to feel.....mainly steering, shifting at high RPMS while accelerating.

The steering in my '02 325i is tight and responsive at 110,000 miles. Its an automatic so i can't answer about shifting gears.

Well... maybe you should try driving some other car bit for comparing?
I took test drive of brand new honda civic week after i bought my e46, and came to conclusion that i don't need civic. Interesting how 12yrs old beemer can feel better to drive than new honda, i even still had those bad CABs on at that time. ![]() (This tip doesn't go for marriage/sex, i don't recommend trying other women for compering. If comparing to other manufacturers' steering, yes, the BMW is "stiffer". My E46 is much harder to turn at lower speeds than my Maxima but that is the price paid for good feedback at higher speeds and under aggressive driving conditions. THe Maxima "floats" at higher speeds and feels more responsive (EDIT: easier to turn the steering wheel) but it really lacks feedback making it feel "loose" at higher speeds and when driving aggressive. My BMW actually feels better at higher speeds and I never lose touch with what the car is doing. Lots of manufactureres over-boost the steering assist to make their cars feel responsive. The trade off is lack of feedback/control when driving hard.

Ok yes that's what I mean, it's stiff...but I just wanted to know if the stiffness of the wheel is normal and not just my car. Thanks

KShade, what year/model is your E46? BMW went through a few iterations of the steering setup, some stiffer than others. Have you read the E46 wiki?

Steering is good when you feel it.
If you don't feel it your e46 is on shiny ice or you're driving American SUV. |
