Oh, and I'm seriously considering buying some forged wheels; lighter and should be stronger than the stock cast wheels.

Today the front left rim (17 inch) on our 2006 BMW330 cracked at freeway speed. The car was going on a perfectly smooth road, and did not hit anything. The rim cracked all the way around, and basically it split in half, as you cut a baggle. After that we decided to get rid of the BMW rims and repalce them with after market ones. Ofcourse we had to buy new tires too.
I can not believe the hazard associated with this car. Why is BMW not doing anything about this? These cars are EXTREMELY dangerous to drive. So many people are getting their rims cracked with these RFT tyres on the 330 BMWs. There is even a facebook page now. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck talking to BMW about this. I did file a report with BMW customer relations, and have yet to hear back from them. |

Bought OZ Racing Ultraleggeras in 18x8. They weight about 6 to 8 pounds less than my summer Style 162 set (6 pounds vs front 162, 8 pounds vs rear 162). I think they're stronger than the style 162s. Low pressure cast and shot peened.

My car failed NYS inspection due to bubbles in tires. BMW Manhattan also told me I had 3 bent rims (BMW style 196). I replace all four tires and all 4 rims. In many ways this car (2007 335i E93) is a very good car but as far as the suspension goes it is the worst engingineered car I have ever owned.

I bent two wheels first time in my life 3 years ago on my E93 335. Completely my fault as I hit a pothole submerged by water. Bent not cracked and 17" with RFT.
I bought two new tires one new rim and had my bent rims repaired. No issues with my E93 that were not caused by me... |

We have to replace a right rear wheel on our 2012 M3 sedan which does not have run flat tires. I was swapping the summer set with the winter set and saw a 1"+ crack on the inside rim of the wheel that was starting to spread into the barrel. I did buy the BMW wheel/tire insurance (negotiated a very good deal) when we bought the car as it was going to be a daily driver.
This is the first wheel that has cracked on any car that I have owned, ever. BMW should start doing something about this issue instead of counting on their customers to bear the cost of replacements. |
