7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

SZL replacement?

Hi, long time reader - first time poster

I am amazed by the knowledge and passion of everyone on here!

I am a long time 7 owner - had a '98 750iL and for the last several years '04 745Li - fabulous cars - but hard on the wallet!

The dealer tells me I have a bad steering angle sensor. I believe that is in the SZL "Switch unit steering column" which I believe I can get online for about $375 from Tomkinson.

I've ordered the BMW TIS, Dis, SSS software and interface to connect to my car. Will this allow me to code the SZL after replacement? Is it difficult to replace? I've searched for a DIY post and haven't found one.

Has anyone done it, or should I bite the bullet and have the dealership replace it?
