Carbon Black Metallic?!?!?

Hi guys I bought a 2008 528 a two years ago and later totaled it. The carbon black metallic color on it was a really nice black. I recently bought a used 2010 550i which is also carbon black metallic. But the color on this vehicle looks totally blue. At first I thought it might be the lighting, however, it looks like there is a lot of blue in the color?? I actually thought maybe the color was a mistake but its carbon black metallic.

Did the color mixture change or something??? Anyone else notice this or have any comments?

Colors do change a little periodically, even with retaining the name. My car is Arctic White, and there are at least two versions of that based on the model year. Check out a paint touchup chart, it will often give you a clue when/if that color name changed and when.

Jad, thanks for the response. I wish they wouldn't fiddle with the paints!!

I haven't examined them closely but there must be some difference between the two blacks, Carbon Metallic and Sapphire Metallic (my colour). That said, Jad's response makes sense.

Funny, I had the same thoughts when I was shopping for mine. The first car I drove was that color and my intial thought was that it was more blue than black. Although the Carbon would probably look really good with the cinnamon interior (because of the blue shade) I ended up ordering the Dark Graphite Metallic II.

That is also a great colour. It would be my second choice but all the executive-driven GTs here in Canada tended to be Sapphire Black Metallic so I couldn't be too 'choosy' for the price and odometer reading that I was offered.

FWIW, I had the hood popped this afternoon and happened to look at the paint color sticker...AlpinWeisse 3. So, apparantly there are at least three versions of Alpine White.
