Topeka 10/21 Sailing

My CA told me he has a "buddy" who works at the port and will try to get my X1 (not ED, just order) as fast as possible. But I am not pressing him at all, he just volunteered that. Of course I am excited but I happen to have that whole week off and to me a couple more days at this point is no big deal.

But it will be interesting to see who on this thread gets their car first!

Saturday will be 6 weeks to the day since I left her in France. I had the unreal hope that she would be in the driveway for thanksgiving but unless a miracle occurs at the VPC and customs it doesn't look good.

Well, she is slowing down, only doing 14.8 knots 50 miles east of Tijuana...can somebody call the captain and tell him to hit the gas?

Just saw that myself! Well I imagine there will be some careful inspections of each vehicle off a ship that has come through a storm like Sandy, although i guess careful inspection's part of every cargo unloading.

Is going through customs only for ED vehicles? My X1 is an order from the factory.

Did Topeka sail through Sandy? I think it went from the UK straight to Panama but maybe it got some part of the storm - not sure.

I'm sure everything has to go through customs somehow, but I have a feeling a new car will be quicker vs. an ED that someone has already driven and 'used'. Hopefully I'm wrong :-)

Everything goes through a customs check and a FDA check (spot check). From there it goes to the VDC which is at the port. THAT is where things can take a while. Customs "should" be a fast process. (hoping i didnt jinx things.)

I am now waiting on the WWL website to update to show customs release and vehicle unloaded information!

I used this site to find the Topeka: http://www.2wglobal.com/www/wep/index.jsp

then used marinetraffic.com to track its movements.

Would be great to see if they've unloaded it already.

Use the WWL site and click all users on the right hand side under track and trace. Then under cargo enter the VIN or at least the last 7 of the vin and click search. Your vehicle will show up with a list of items. Booked, loaded, departure, etc. When it is removed from the boat it should say Discharged and then customs clear etc as it goes through the steps.

At least we know the cars are all offloaded. Topeka is out of port.

Mine is showing as discharged now. There's now way to track beyond this (except for maybe cleared customs) from what I understand -- just have to wait for the call from the dealer.

Mine shows as DISCHARGED at 11:35 yesterday and then DELIVERED FROM as of 7:15 this morning on the WW site. Not sure what that "delivered from" means that's different from DISCHARGED...

My (uneducated) guess is that since your car is not an ED, it gets through quicker.

That was my understanding. However, I still don't know what "discharged" and "delivered from" indicate on the WW site, which I assume only follows the BMW as cargo. I don't think the WW site would report if my X1 made it on a truck. Maybe "discharged" is one way of saying the Topeka made port successfully, and "delivered from" literally means the X1 was unpacked and driven off...

What does the entire line say after delivered from?

You will probably get a faster customs/FDA clearance due to not having the car be an ED, but it will say Customs Clearance for that. Otherwise I would expect the next step to mean it is at the VPC.

Went back to the WW site and there's a lot of stuff there now:

You lucky dog. Your car is now at the VPC. From this point your CA will have to give updates. WWL has officially wiped their hands from the transaction. The car is now BMW's not theirs.

I doubt it will get through the VPC and shipped to you for the weekend. If you continue to get lucky you may be able to get it before Thanksgiving.

I've got the same Status. Spoke with my CA and he says between Monday - Wednesday (the latter being the latest) if there was no damage to the vehicle during shipment. CA states that the VPC is where any non-factory options are installed and any damage is repaired.

Said he'd call me as soon as it gets to the dealership.

Monday-Wednesday sounds right. I suppose the VPC closes for the weekend.

But I for one don't want my X1 on a turkey hauler...a sad time of year for turkeys!

Check again. It may show the other bits. Mine is totally clear of customs now! Faster than expected. This rocks! And I had no damage when it left my hands in Paris, so hopefully VPC is super fast. I am so taking off from work if for some reason it makes it to the dealership before thanksgiving.

Looks like mine was released from US Customs...now lets see how long it takes them to repair a scratch on the bumper and replace (hopefully) 3 rims (thank you very much Westin Paris valet).

Congrats! I've been hitting refresh all day haha and I now see the other bits. It's cleared customs and I also see Liner release. They have to fix a door ding at VPC so that will probably delay things. The customs and port handling was definitely faster than I had expected though.

I guess I can delete the Wallenius bookmark now...
