HELP - 1998 740 won't accelerate

I recently purchased a 1998 740iL (190k miles). When I start the car in the morning, or after a few hours of sitting, the car will not accelerate. For the first 5-10min, it goes no more than 5mph, pedal to the floor. In Neutral, the engine revs just fine. Temperature gauge is cold. After a while, it will slowly warm up and accelerate fine (temp gauge reaches normal). The only dash lights that show up is "CHECK COOLANT LEVEL".

Please keep in mind, that the reason I'm posting here is to avoid taking the car to the dealership. I've been to a few small mechanics who aren't sure what the problem is.

All help is appreciated, but what I'm really looking for is someone who's had a similar problem or is pretty certain they know what the problem is... (previous posts have been answered, but not resolved, with no further comments).

NOTE: I have changed the transmission fluid and filter, but it has not resolved the problem.

Thanks in advance!

Had a very similar problem to this on my car shortly after buying it. Turns out it was the o2 sensors on their way out.

That's pure speculation though and the only way you can get any real certainty in an answer right now is to hook it up to a computer / scanner and pull the codes. If it's the o2 sensors starting to fail, then they should almost certainly be throwing a code. Generally speaking anything that's failing to a point of crippling the car THAT bad will almost certainly present with some kind of error code.

That would be my first stop, then we can go from there. Otherwise you'll start blowing money on random parts trying to solve it and wind up spending more than a dealer would charge in the first place!!
