Possible torque converter problem?

Strangest thing this morning, i go out to the car, drive out, I get to the first light and then the idle starts stumbling (fall, stablize, fall, etc). To add, while driving the revs would drop and regain like when i had my transmission problem, except this transmission was just rebuilt not to long ago! (2003 540i)

I swapped MAFs just to be sure, and it didn't do anything, still drove poorly.
I scanned the DME, clean. Didn't scan ABS since no lights came on. Scanned the Trans. got code "30 Mechanical converter lockup clutch monitoring"

Is this just a sensor or am I looking at a bad torque converter?

Droopy idle (This didn't come back later in the day) for some reason...

This is how it drives now

Mech. called up and said it's a bad solenoid. I'll check it out when I pick it up tomorrow.

Got a call back, it's definately is a solenoid.

The problem is that 2 are bad;

1 solenoid lets the car shift fine in/out of 1st but like poo in the rest. The other solenoid wont let it go into 1st (2nd is the lowest it goes/starts) but works fine in/out of the rest.

Well bad news... the Solenoids didn't change anything for some reason.. The car still drops rpms in every gear... Any help is usefull.

The only possible cause I can think of at this point is the TQ converter.

Idle RPM dropping and RPM surging while driving is not likely the convertor.
Clear the codes and see what codes set again. Is there more than one code?
Do you have or have access to a scanner that can look at the sensors while the engine is running?

I haven't asked if any of the codes came back.

It's a friends shop, they know whats up.. No, not BMW, but they have done a 5HP24 / other BMWs before.

It's just the code so far and behavior of the solenoids so far don't add up after replacing them.

Update : Replaced the Valve body and all soleniods with new ones and it finally fixed the problem. I went over to test drive it, and it shifts and drives like a dream.

I checked codes both in the DME & EGK (transmission) before and after driving and it was all good!

Re Update: I did drive good in testing, but went back to crap going up a hill... Sadly it was the torque converter, R&R'd under warranty with a new unit and should be all good now!

Changing the solenoids & valve body did help quite the problem a bit, but no dice, TC was toast.
