You KNOW you own an E39 when you...

When you contemplated about being done with the e39 and then as your about to pull the trigger you just can't because you love the e39 aswell as the fest for always being there to troubleshoot a problem.

When you (due to practice) can change a window regulator in under an hour.

Forking died laughing at this. I can relate with my E34.

I'll add, when you some how feel better than everyone else on the road because your car has the roundell on it.

When pull on the outside door handle & it comes off in your hand!

Constantly go outside and sit in her without even going nowhere.

You know you love E39's when....

....you almost sell your 530i to buy a 911 and aren't too upset when the deal falls through (The P-Car was not up to snuff.. I can wait for a good one). Instead you invest in some coilovers, a new head unit and new tires. Perhaps it was the universe slowing me down before I did something I would regret?

when your friends make fun of you for cleaning off bird poop with the quick detailer in your trunk as soon as it happens.

when your dad says his car is better, and always asks to take your car on road trips.

when you scare everyone that is in the garage when you start the engine. Then your dad explains that "He did that on purpose"

when you accept a 95 Grand Prix SE, for cost to trailer it from Houston TX to Lincoln NE just because you don't want to let your car sit outside at your rental house. Then you leave it in your parents garage, but feel sad when you leave it outside for a night when working on another project in the garage. (maybe that one is too specific)

Never gave a second look if I seen someone driving the same model car as mine. Whenever I see an e39, I can't help but to critique it.

when you have no ideal what the blue and red dot means on the center vent, and can't figure out why you get no heat out of them.
trying to figure why the temp gauge reads -40.
won't use the cup holders out of fear of breaking them.
your out side in 15 degree weather pouring hot water onto the latch so the door will close.
you want to plasti dip everything you can have a sport moldel
when your ride is broken and won't run, sittin in the same spot for months, and it still looks better then all of the other neighbors cars that do run.
and last but not least............................................. ...........................
your sitting in the drive way, playing with the sun visor looking like and idiot just to see if the ignition switch is bad. knowing no other car has this unique testing procedure.

When you know the good folks on the fest and the search engine got your back when on a good Sunday your 'service engine light' turns on after just giving the car a good wash and detail.

I almost died laughing reading that. I was pretty proud of myself for doing the driver's window repair in under 45 min. That's an hour off last week's time!

BTW, it's the rubber edge protectors for the window clamps that crack in half and fall off on the front windows.

When you need a utilitarian commuting/grocery getting/dog hauling vehicle and you convince yourself another e39 (wagon) would be perfect because you have the tools and experience to fix most of the little crap that is going to go wrong, and you already have a supply of fasteners and connectors and spare parts.

When you forbid anyone from ever eating or drinking in your car again......ever!

When you are aware of the possible sources of leaves, water, dirt and crap that can fall from the sky and/or neighboring parking space and land on your baby!

(which leads to....)

When you actually PAY ATTENTION to the weather forecast..........not for your own comfort, but to time your car washes properly

and last but not least....

When you actually know what a water pump with a metal impeller is!
