2013 550i GT - Production Complete!

Just received word today that production is complete for my 2013 550i GT! Looks like we are now waiting for release to the carrier, can't wait to get behind the wheel of this vehicle.

TIMELINE (UPDATED ORIGINAL POST AS BENCHMARK DATES WERE HIT):
Order Documented 9/13/2012
Production Begins 9/17/2012
Production Ends 10/2/2012
Loaded on Ship 10/11/2012 or 10/12/2012
En Route to the U.S. 10/13/2012
Arrived at Port U.S. 11/6/2012
Finishing Touches 11/8/2012
At Your BMW Dealer 11/9/2012
Picked Up! 11/15/2012

*Notes, you can find many sources for tracking your vehicle, but my one piece of advice is to follow up with your dealer for the most up to date information on the delivery of your car. Crevier BMW (Brad Lindenstein) does a great job at keeping me informed and I found that he is a better resource than the information points on either BMW USA or the automated line for the progress of the build. It's great fun to order and track your vehicle, but man, the wait is agonizing. My new "beauty" is being shipped on NYK's Triton Leader, and if all goes well, the vehicle will be in the port on the date specified and in my garage by November 15th!

Specs:
  • 2013 550i xDrive Gran Turismo
  • Dk Graphite Metallic II
  • Black Dakota
  • ZCW - Cold Weather (yes I am in California)
  • ZDA - Driver Assistance Package
  • ZDB - Driver Assistance Plus
  • ZEC - Executive Package
  • ZMP - M Sport Package
  • Gloss Black Powercoated 19" M wheels

Woohoo!

Triton Leader - status

Ships still not showing on the tracking, but hopefully she's getting close to the Caribbean Sea! Picked up a schedule from Port Hueneme and noted they now have Triton Leader's arrival pegged for 11-6-2012 - getting closer!

Triton Leader - Position 11-5-2012

Well, looks like the ship's captain can't figure out what direction to go today, been looping around off the coast of Mexico for the past few hours......maybe contemplating a stop for margaritas?????

Still on target for a delivery to Port Hueneme on 11-6.

Also, contacted my CA and asked about potential delay at the port. CA suggested that delays are normally experienced by those receiving a ED, I was told that there is huge incentive to get the vehicles offloaded and onto the trucks as the invoicing is done once the vehicle hits the truck - something to be said about economic incentive.

The TL is just passing Oceanside CA with the next stop Port Hueneme! My new beauty is very close - even got a call from my CA that her new rims are being powder coated with gloss black as I write!

Talking 550i GT - Complete and at Dealer

Well, the long voyage and the wait have nearly come to an end, my car is at the dealer receiving the final preparation steps now necessary to complete delivery. I am having his windows tinted, the wheels installed and afterwards the detail.

Interesting though, I think they had some difficulty firing up all the systems on the car as the vehicle electronic system is put in "transport mode" when being shipped. Upon receipt of the car, the Team at the dealer ran into difficulties doing so and had to obtain some sort of update for the software - hopefully this is not a bad omen, but instead just means that the "James Bond" options I had installed require attention, just kiddin, no ejection seat or weapons have been installed.

I will post pictures of the new addition this week as I expect to see delivery on or before Wednesday. I think I will put custom plates on the car, something to the effect of "Charley Bucket". For those of you who are fans of Willy Wonka, you may recall that Willy greets Charley and states simply "...And you. Well, you're just luck to be here, aren't you?" that's me.....

FWIW, I had my car parked for 18-days, and when I returned and started it up after a vacation, it announced it had gone into hibernation mode and shut down various things that normally would have continued to run (I'm assuming to save the battery). As a precaution, I put my trickle charger on it when I got home, but I never saw any other effect. The steering wheel did not go back to its programmed position and it forgot all of my programmed radio stations, but has returned to working normally since. I'm assuming from this that it does not save that stuff in NVM, but in volatile memory, and that was shut down to save power (along with probably other things as well).

Talking 550i GT - Picked Her Up!

It's been a long journey, but very enjoyable. I picked her up last night (has to be a her as she is so damn sexy). The delivery took a bit longer than I expected, but I ended up having the dealer install a converter (to power a PC) and just to be sure I'm covered, I had them load a 4g hotspot in the her too.

Drove her into work today and WHAT A JOY! She is very quick, a little more bulky than my 850i or our 528i, but that's to be expected with the room and luxury she provides. That said, a combination of the luxury and downright get up and go she has clearly places her in a class to be admired.

I look forward to hangning around on this Forum and keeping in contact with you my friends and fellow GT lovers.

Here's a few photos - sorry for the quality of the last one, early morning hours here in California.

Snowball, glad to see that the long wait has ended and from your pictures and description, it was worth waiting for (for you and those of us waiting 'with you'. Very sharp (and mean-looking in a nice way). No doubt you will find the least little excuse to take it out for a spin. That is fully understandable. Long may you enjoy GT ownership!

Finishing touches

Yup, grills to be installed in about a week, went gloss black OEM to match wheels and shadow line. Nice, I like the idea of leaving only the GT!
