Removing Starter from 525i

Do you remove the starter from the top of the engine or the bottom of a 2001 525i?

From the top. Remove the intake manifold for access.

Thanks. I did confirm that the starter is good. I did some more searching and found that my ignition key could be the problem for no start/no crank/ no nothing. I went ahead and purchased another key. They told me to try my original key first, wait 10 seconds and try the new key. I did just that...my original key did not start the car. However, after waiting 10 seconds I used the new key and it did start. After this I turned the car off and tried the new key multiple times and it continued to work.

After this, I tried the original key and it started the car. Why is this? Did the original key become inactivated somehow and after the new key was used, it then activated the original key again?
