Just because the car disapointed you doesn't mean your expectations are higher or lower, just that you didn't know what you were buying... To compare a 328 with a Mini just means you are clueless.

If you would have read all my posts, you would know that in my opinion the F30 328i is underwhelming period. Doesn't require comparison with another car, Mini or not. It's a neat car, just lacks a little zing.

I drove a 335i recently and now that's a car! As I've mentioned earlier, the 335i should have been the base cuz the 240 HP make a car this big seem like an underwhelming boat (to those who expect performance from BMW)

Have you ever driven previous base model 3's? I am going to guess no.

I was given a 335 for a loaner yesterday. I hate to break it to people, it's not the game changer it's portrayed to be. Is there more power, yes. Is it all transforming-hell no.

Probably going to be a re-flash on the ECU or a piggyback chip or some engine internal parts. They currently announced the upgrade for the 2.0L T Diesel versions for Europe.

Saw that. I like the fact that BMW is providing its customers with lots of aftermarket OEM options. it provides you with the ability to individualize your car, improve performance etc. The turbo charged engines will provide lots of options.

Didn't read the entire thread, but I put 60K miles on an RL in 2 years and I am in pure joy in the 328i. Prior to the RL I owned an 07 335i sport.

Go and drive 60K miles in an RL and the 328 will feel like a go cart. I'm not saying anything bad about the RL, it was comfortable and didn't give me one problem but I'm glad to be back in a bimmer.

I think what will really make you happy is the BMW Performance Exhaust for the 328i. What you felt different in the MINI and 335i which they both share, is the more aggressive exhaust note. I don't if the OEM PE is available for the F30 328i or not.

It's available for order, just not shipped.

That exhaust is still a bit timid.

I was very happy with the sound of the Rogue unit while I had it on my car. Also happy to see a nearly 20lbft of tq increase on the dyno. That only had me on my way to nearly matching N55 tq output.

Dealers nowadays seem to be willing to deal on 335i, which is $3.5k-4k in addition(if priced at invoice) to a comparably equipped 328i, that sounds like a good deal! On the 328i performance kit, is it only for N20 but not N26? I wonder if BMW has something for N26 without voiding the CA PZEV designation.

It was the prototype. It was taken off to be used for tooling for production. I get the first production unit installed which should be early January.

Also in January I am having a full install of all Integral Audio audio upgrades. They used my car for a week to take all the F30 specific measurements.

About all they would do for you is a F30 specific stealth subwoofer enclosure.

IA is doing a sub-box, but also all components and amps, the headunit is left appearing stock and full functional. It's going to be about $4k in audio installed. I really lucked out. They also gave me a loaner while they had my car. It was an '01 Explorer Sport, but still really convenient.

First off, welcome back. We missed you this past week.

Next, I don't think he was referring to the "status-symbol" thing but rather that the 3 Series has always been about nimble handling. If you read some BMW history books or watch some documentaries, you'll find that the reason the 2002 was such a popular car was not because of it's straight-line power but because of it's handling in the corners. Revolutionized the auto industry as, to that point, it was all about muscle cars that couldn't turn cleanly.

So when he says you "don't know what BMW is about" he's referring to the fact that raw power is not as important as nimble handling. And in the case of the 3 Series, the 328i is the more nimble of the two cars.

I'll also reiterate what JV said- while the 335i is more powerful than a 328i, it's not a game-changer. I've had loaner E90 335i's for week's at a time and when I got my E90 328i's back I didn't feel that much of a difference nor did I feel I was driving an insufficiently powered car. But I will tell you that when I test drove an F30 328i I was blown away by the difference in acceleration. It's not so much about how much horsepower, but rather when and where that horsepower is applied.

Many F30 reviewers gave the 328i the nod over the 335i because of it's better handling, what tturedraider was referring to.
