Can't help you with the first question as I'm new to the e53 (approx 1 week) so there's lots of common issues I'm just learning about.

But the 2nd question is easy to answer due to BMW using the LCM/LKM (lamp/light control module) for decades as the controlling unit for all exterior lighting. There may be a fuse or 2 that support the LCM/LKM...I'd look at the fuse index in the glovebox and the rear cargo area for that info. There should be a fuse diagram that has all the fuses listed alphabetically along with their fuse nbr...along with an illustrated diagram of the fuse box with each fuse location nbr listed along with the fuse's amperage.

I have noticed a delay in the illumination of my passenger headlamp from time to time. I expect that may be a (mal)function of the LCM as well.

Hey did you find out about the first question ??? Was the LCM replacement the solve for this? I have the exact same issue... local repair shop wants to replace with NEW OEM headlights in full for 5200 bucks for the job... WHAT ? I've delved into this and replaced 3 parts so farballast, bulb and ignitor so far...
