i figured thats what it is. if i develop this problem i will probably go to AGA it looks like its alot more reliable and sturdy, URO uses alot of o rings as u mentioned and IMO looks kinda thin an flimsy, OEM well idk if theyre doing this already i would rather try an aftermarket solution rather than create the same problem again, i never looked into bimmer pipe but im sure theyre all better than stock design.

Pipe is pipe. it is metal. The problem is a robber ring on the end of pipe.

Thanks! I read thru the whole thing.. funny you got your leak at 129k.. I just bought my car at 129k and just hit 130k.. how did you tell you had the weep hole leak? I will read up on it soon.. I know the dealer did the water pump, and they had the car for over a week.. is there a clear way to tell if my coolant pipe has been replaced? I did notice on the pass side head there is a splotch of white paint, I wonder if that means something was done to it.. wish I could tell what was done to what..

Khabar quick question, do I have to use 12 new bolts for the valley pan or can I use the old ones?
Reason I ask is because my stupid Local BMW forgot to put the bolts when they sent the package out to me ![]() Sent from my GT-N7100 using Bimmer App

Thanks for pics but is everyones motor this dirty/weathered? When I look at my block it looks brand new.. heads everything.. you can read any of the numbers on anything.. and I know someone hasn't cleaned it because there is crud built up on the shock towers and a couple small spots..

Nice work! How long did it take you in total?
I got in the car on Sunday morning, got the 'Low Coolant Level' warning on the dash, checked the reservoir and it was dry! Ive never had to top off the coolant in the 20 months ive owned it, (although I did replace the thermostat and refill the coolant 8 months ago). I checked the coolant literally 5 days ago because I could smell coolant when walking past the front of the car after driving and parking up. Level looked fine just between the MIN and MAX level. I managed to have a look at the weep hole and it looks dry, with no sign of previous leakage (water marks etc...). I cant see any leakage anywhere else, the under tray is dry. Either I have a slow leak somewhere so its evaporating before it drips or perhaps the head gasket is leaking? It took around a pint and a half to bring it back up to the MIN mark. How much water were you losing? could it be evaporating in the void behind the weep hole and i wont see it overflowing until it gets worse? Im stripping the engine to the block after xmas and have already bought the OEM pipe just in case! I will have the timing chain covers off anyway so will change it as a matter of course. Stuart |

I started at 10am and finished around about 8-9pm including the runs to screwfix and halfords to pick up the reciprocating saw and T connector and lunch, tea and *** breaks lol, so in total about 9 hours. I had very obvious leaking through the weep hole as when it would poyr down the bottom you could see it coming from the weep hole on the water pump. Now its bone dry, but did get a shock of my life when I woke up today and turned the car on and it said coolant low first thing that popped into my mind was head gasket lol.... then I remembered I didnt properly top her up after I put i changed the coolant pipe and didnt really run her in properly for the coolant to ciculate the system for me to top her up with the final drops. Even then I checked for bubbles in my expansion tank, milky substance on the oil, white smoke from exhaust and lastly my car never over heated on me once. (Touch wood it dont start happening now) So far so good, also changed my emmissions pipe which was broken off the drivers side valve, now I dont get the rough idle during the morning which I used to get as well as the emmssions fault code. Also with your car I would check the hoses, my hose from the water pump to the radiator to the alternator was completely dissintigrated on the T connection which in turn was leaking, once I was fixing that I realised I had coolant leaking from next to the water pump but it was ok until it literally started pouring heavily from the hole. The n62 is a beautiful V8 but its a shame with beauty comes the beast of all headaches to maintain the V8. Sent from my GT-N7100 using Bimmer App

Also you might be rite about the void behind the hole as mine didnt use to pour at first until it became abvious when changing the pipe/hose.

So your secondary air pipe was broken on drivers side? And that was causing a rough idle at cold? How long was the rough idle when cold? Thanks for all the help!!

Thanks D4T_POM,
Thats pretty good going! Yeah my weep hole looks dry....for now ha ha! I dont have any water in the oil, or any noticeable white smoke. (thats if you can really tell with all the oil its burning!). I will keep an eye on it this week. Thats good, I have secondary air fault too on bank 2, I expect its either the pipe cracked, valve or cylinder head blocked. Yeah I agree! the V8 is great but maintenance and running cost is high, luckily like yourself I do all the work myself, im still looking at £1200 parts and the 7 in the garage for a month though! |

Most likely its your 'Y' pipe that connects to the 2 mushroom like valves below and behind the intake manifold that has broken off the stupid connectors BMW use, they where a pain to take off, especially the ones on the front of the intake manifold considering I did not want to break them for resuse purposes. Also good luck with the work Stuart, after I put everything back on, my whole body was in pain due to putting myself through different positions to get everything off lol If I was closer to you I would have given you a helping hand when you do the work ![]() Im thinking of buying an engine hoist so I can use it to change my friends engine on a Peugeot 307 as he was so wise while changing his glow plugs he snapped them causing him to need a recon engine also the hoist will come in handy in the future.A month in the garage? Hope you have another run around as when I didnt drive my 7er for 2 weeks while getting the AGA pipe and other parts ready I felt embaressed to use public transport ![]() Let me know how it goes Sent from my GT-N7100 using Bimmer App

Yeh my secondary air pipe was broken which was causing the rough idling every morning when I would start my car for atleast 3-5 minutes, I cant remember the code exactly, I think it was p0491, p0492 and p0431 or something like that lol Now I dont get a rough idle in the morning ![]() Below is a picture which shows where it actually broke off from (not my picture, someone elses picture who had the same problem and fault codes). you can see on the second picture where it actually breaks off from, funny how BMW use such cheap parts on their flagship car ![]() Not only that, the T connectors on their hoses actually DISSINTIGRATE which makes you wonder 'WHAT THE F***K' ![]() Sent from my GT-N7100 using Bimmer App

Also another thing to remember is when a car dealership say 'our cars would last you a lifetime' what they actually meant is 'lifetime in our term is 100,000 miles'
