More Specifically....
convertible, obviously.
THe dude I bought the car from stated that there were a series of sensor switches that (if non operational) would prevent the trunk from opening. This serves the purpose of protecting the Top... when I insert the key and turn it I can hear the electronic clicking and it trying to engage. I have already tried removing the back seat but there is only a "Ski Hole" and unfortunately after 4 hrs of intensive training my Cat "Cuddles" refuses to go in and trip the latch...I am hoping there is a less invasive way to get it open rather than using a pick axe! Regards.... |

There's a micro switch under the front passenger side of the convertible top storage compartment lid that's the interlock switch to prevent interference between the trunk lid and the storage compartment lid. Lower your top to the point where it's in the storage compartment but the compartment lid hasn't closed. Look for the microswitch and either have someone hold it down or tape it down so that you know it's actuated, then try unlocking the trunk again. You may even hear the sound of an actuator in the trunk lock when you open and close the microswitch. Don't raise the trunk lid or you'll hit the back edge of the storage compartment lid and damage both, but this should tell you if it's an interlock problem or not. If this gets you into the trunk then you'll need to figure out why the microswitch isn't actuating correctly. Either it needs adjustment or the compartment lid isn't fully closing.

I thought we put this in the sticky. I used to have to do this all the time with my 328ic. It's like an extra locking mechanism to thwart thieves!

Most everything is in the stickies, but unless we get the site manager to set it up so that new members have to look at the stickies first before they can post the usual "HELP! My (fill in the blank) doesn't work" we'll have to just either point them there or tell 'em what to try. LOL
