Glove Box Stuck Closed?

After emptying the contents of the glovebox on my 2011 X5 I closed the glovebox. When I returned to store my owners mannual I can't open the glovebox. I hear a definate "click" when I press the release button but the clamshell style doors don't open now?? Is there a reset? I need the emergency release cable secret!

Thanks for any help found here...

"The emergency unlocking mechanism can be accessed from the front passenger's side.
Only the instrument-panel cover needs to be opened here. Behind this cover is a loop,
which, when pulled, unlocks and opens the glovebox."

Thanks Penguin!

Now I'm looking at the diagram and stuck on how to "open the instrument panel cover".

I removed the panel underneath the glovebox and above the passenger footwell and no emergency unlocking mechanism is in sight. I can then access a couple of screws holding the main dash panel but that is a huge piece all accross the dash and I'm not thinking that is what they are referring to??? No way can I pry that up without hunting down all the fasteners accross the dash. From the picture it looks like the emergency loop should be hanging on the right hand side at about the same height of the box. I see no way to get near that w/o having the whole dash come off.

What am I missing here?

Why not swing by the dealer and let them do it for you? The door will have to be fixed anyway since it is under warranty. That way there will be no question that in some way you caused the problem.

In my area, service appointments are 3-4 days out. I just thought if there was a simple procedure then why not give it a try...

That's what the diagram shows, but I see no screws or any way to remove the end of the dash cover on the pasenger side. Does it pop off with push connectors?

In most cases something like this can be fixed (or the door opened) by a driveway visit to the dealer. Then, make the appointment for a permanent fix at a later time. When you start opening up and unscrewing things then it might cost you later. Just a thought.

Tell me please where is located "instrument-panel cover" to find emergency unlocking mechanism
http://www.static.estore-central.com...cymta2x3a=.jpg
(number 16)

I opened "Lateral trim panel" from the door side on side of the dash as recommended rattmann but I could not find a loop there.

P.S. I have X6 (E71). Glovebox should be the same as E70's

Blown fuse. Replace it (10A). If you don't have a spare, "borrrow" another to just open the glove box. There's recent post on xoutpost with pictures.

It's this pic:

"The fuse box is located underneath the passenger dash. There are three screws that you will to need to remove that will reveal the fuse box. After you remove the panel look up and to the right and you will see a panel (on the right hand side) with a green screw. Unscrew this and it will reveal the fuse panel. The fuse that I replaced was the mini 10 fuse in the below pic. I tired different type SMD LED bulbs and it kept popping the fuse. So I ended just putting the stock one back in."

Thanks to PCGRUR2K for figuring this out.

Additionally, this fuse panel tilts down when you loosen the green screw - it does not pull forward - it's very awkward to get to. There is a fuse removal tool in the fuse panel in the back liftgate fuse box if you need one.
