Bike rack.

My wife just traded her 2011 Mini Countryman in on a new X1. We had hoped the Mini bike rack would fit the X1 but it does not. It looks identical to the BMW rack except that the mounting points are too wide to fit the X1 (approx 44" apart). Does anyone know if it will fit a X5? The dealer has not been any help and the only other option may be to measure the distance between the mounting points on a X5. This is the type of rack that fits in the mounting holes already in the rear bumper facia. Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure, but the X5 is a good deal wider than the X1 and bigger, so doubtful.

(And I'd love to hear your thoughts on both the Countryman and X1. I've been vaguely intrigued with both of them recently)

And as always, welcome to Bfest!

Believe it or not the Countryman is wider than the X1, so that is why I think the bike rack may fit a X5? The mounting bracket on the Mini rack is approx 44" wide. The mounting holes in the X1 bumper are approx 34" apart (center to centre). I'd appreciate it if someone with a current model X5 could measure the distance between the two mounting points on their back bumper. Measure from center of hole cover to center of hole cover. Thanks.

As for why she got rid of the Mini it was just time. We tend to deal our cars every two years or sooner. She liked the Countryman (S all4 with JCW body kit, 6 spd) but missed driving a BMW. She has had the X1 for about a week and a half and loves it.

It's 41". I have a 2012 X5.

I'm surprised the mounting holes on the Countryman are spaced wider than on the X5! I do have the bike rack (the one for the X5) and it's adjustable to accommodate a range of towing eyelet distances. Is the Countryman one adjustable?

Thanks Marwan. Could you describe the process for adjusting the towing eyelet distance? I will look at my rack again but there does not seem to be an obvious may to adjust it.
