Yes the Aux is selected and the audio it turned all the way up. and it could be that the plug came out of the jack but I have a new usb/aux socket to put in, if thats not it I will pull the radio out and check the connection in back.

well I got the center console out, Man that was a pain, especially when you dont know where the bolts are that hold it down and clips, I had to take the rear console out in order to pull the front out all the way to the dash, I got the AUX/USP socket out and put the new one in, BUT I didnt snap it in place yet. I really hope its the socket, maybe should have pulled the head unit out first and check to see if a wire was pulled out. anyway tomorrow when the sun comes up I will put it all back together, lots of plugs!

Sort of related to the topic, when you finally get your aux port working get yourself a flat aux cable so your console door closes firmly without wrecking the cable. The Griffin one is very nice, especially if you can get it for half of the MSRP. Not quite as nice but inexpensive is the no name branded one (possibly "Adreama") you can get at Fry's.

I purchased the y cable from BMW, it also charges the Ipod at the same time, plus it appears someone wedged something in the AUX jax and spread the contact apart, I plan on checking the wiredswith a multimeter from the jack to the radio just in case

well I got the AUX/usb socket replace, put the console back together( I could tell someone had been in there before too) and still nothing, I pulled the radio out and it appears there are not enough wires running to the radio. the AUX/USB socket wires has 4 wires, from memory, clear, white/red, white/blue and maybe black, plus the large black wire to the USB port, None of those run into the Radio, I could see where they run from the console back behind the radio but they kept going over towards the glove box, and I didnt see any extra loose plugs behind the radio either, I have to me missing something, I need to find a wiring diagram for my radio
so its not the socket the Aux when on, the audio level it at 6 and it does have a hiss when the regular volume is turned up Hondo |

Dude...OP I don't think you are understanding the comments others are posting here. It's not the head unit VOLUME they are asking you to turn up. It's the head unit AUX LEVEL volume. They are different. Volume is turned up by just turning the volume knob. AUX level is turned up through the menu.
You have not replied yet if you checked this. Also why are you taking the radio out yourself instead of having car max do it for free??? |

Technic can you be more specific?, I followed the AUX/USB cable from the center console where the socket is, and both the USB and AUx wires run forward under the console and go in behind the dash behind the radio head unit and continues on from there over towards the glove box, at that point I got frustated and gave up, I know you are trying to be helpful but in the trunk does me no good, can you be more specific in where I need to look? I have tried to google wiring diagrams for my car and get nothing, I dont mind buying a service manual but had no luck finding one on the web and I assume you mean Original Equipment Manufactures Head Unit
thanks for helping Hondo |

OP - what was the process for replacing the AUX 'socket'? was it easy and how did you get it out? and where can you find a replacement? The car wash guys pulled the loose cable and shorted the connection.

It was easy now looking back on it, its not difficult just painful. I have a 335i convertable, if thats what you have. you have to take the whole console out to get to the socket. and in order to get the console out you have to start at the rear console, pulling the cup holder out and the rear cubby box, under the rear cubby box are 2 bolts which you remove, then pop the rear vents out, 4 torx screws to remove, then pull the rear console out, next work on the front, gear shift lever boot, see you tubetube for directions, then the plastic cover pops off, hand brake boot to remove, several screws and 2 more bolts, work the front console off, taking all the wire connections looses, but you have to pull the whole front console out to get the aux/usb socket out
have fun Hondo |

ooo and I made pry sticks out of some wood paint stir sticks, sanded the ends to a bevel , so all those covers you pry off I used the sticks not to mar the pannels

![]() The MULF module is beneath the TCU module shown in this photo; if you look closely at the photo you may see it. Just remove your trunk floor trim and you will see your TCU halfway under the rear bulkhead. If there is no TCU in your E93 then you will see the mounting blacket top empty and the module mounted under it. |

If you use a "L" shape pick you can carefully remove the USB/AUX socket assembly without removing a single panel by inserting the pick into the AUX jack and then pulling it up.

I will look in the trunk today and check for the TCU and MULF units if it doesnt rain, as far as getting the AUX/USB socket out with an L shape pick, it might be possible but it will be difficult in my opinion, there are metal spring clips on each side and you have to force them in to get the socket to release.

Good to know, In fact I wish I would have known that before I pulled the whole console out.
But now I know how it all comes out |

OK Technic
I pulled the trunk floor pannel out, and what did I find? both the MULF unit and the TCU unit, in addition there is another box to the left, Driver side and a small computer type fan, I couldnt get the bulk head pannel out, it had 6 plastic plugs which I did get out but they put one frigging screw and most likely its a torqux and the only way to get it is to put the top partially down so I quit for the day, so I am wondering if one of the boxes is bad, how do you find out, I cannot imagine a plug came loose. So is this a BMW check out? And whats is that extra box to the left? thanks Hondo |

Well got an update, I got a call today from Sirus radio letting me know that I have a 3 month free subscription to Satillite radio in my new BMW (now how they found out I purchased the car and got my Cell number I will never know), and I informed the person that my radio doesnt have satillite radio. so far as I can tell there is no SAT on the Menu,. So I think that the factory head unit was replace with a unit thats not AUX capable or SAT capable, if thats possible, I am going to talk to BMW on Monday and give them the model and SN and see if that unit is correct for my car, will let you know what I find out

Wow... Did CARMAX advertise it as having either feature? You might have a basis for having them make it right rather than having to pay for it yourself.
BTW: I'm sure CARMAX sent the info to SiriusXM to start the three month trial when you buy a used car with satellite radio installed. |
