Show Off Your E36 (post Pics)

To follow Joe's lead, here's one that could be yours for ~$37500:



Cost of suspension alone ~$12500 in order to withstand all the beating it gets in rallying. Wheelspin on tarmac in 3rd gear not a problem, sometimes even 4th - goes like no other E36 I've seen so far (bar drag-prepped ones).

shooting with a sony NEX-c3 with the standard 18-55 lense and no filters im pretty sure... cause i have no clue what that is.

Made a visit to Daytona Beach today. Went for the Turkey Run car show but stopped off for a few quick photos of Marie.

Ken my car isn't low enough. And that is with the rear raised a inch and a half and the front lip taken off. I don't like the way it looks right now. At all

Looks like too long of a shutter speed**. (letting to much light in) in a few pictures... but what do i know i dont have a DSLR just a EVIL.

The only thing I see seriously wrong is your framing

Colors and such seem nice. You should see if you can get your hands on Adobe Lightroom. I think you can get it for $199 with student discount and it's 100x easier to do simple color/sharpness/exposure edits.

Alan, What are you using for edits? In my opnion, the car is nicely exposed in the majority of the pictures, but far over-saturated and the skys are way blown out. Can you post the original raw shot straight from the camera? I can show you some tips of what I'd do to get the same "pop" of the colors, yet still keep the car in focus and not let the BG be distracting.

Not so much the angles, but rather what is included in the picture.

2 of my personal biggest photography framing "rule-of-thumbs" are:

1: Tangents
Tangents are whole shapes cut off by the edge of the photo or canvas that cause and uneasy and incomplete feeling with the picture

i.e:

2: Rule of Thirds
The idea that main focus should stay away from center or edges of pictures, but rather placed on the intersect of "third lines." Third lines are imaginary lines that would exist if you cut the canvas or photo in thirds both vertically or horizontally

Yeah, the frame in camera helps a ton. I was just using part of the car cut off as an example, most of your shots are great, the only one that bothered me in that regard was the roundel cut off slightly.

Digging the results of the new camera though!

Yeah i see what you mean there w/ the roundel. i was too focused on the raindrops.

I really wouldn't sweat it, Franklyn. Mirrorless cameras like the Sony NEX-C3 are getting pretty good, and offer a lot of flexibility. You should be able to take awesome photos with that camera once you get the hang of it. I actually think a mirrorless camera with detachable lenses is a pretty good way to get your feet wet.

The sensing elements and electronics on the earlier digital cameras didn't have the speed (at an affordable cost) to match the mechanical shutter speeds so the best compromise was to use a digital array to essentially just substitute for the film. There was a marketing advantage in doing this as it helped long time film camera users get comfortable with digital cameras since not much changed for them. They just offloaded their photos instead of developing the film.
Most current cameras allow setting of f stops and aperture electronically, the digital sensing arrays have gotten much denser (higher pixel count), faster and cheaper, and the difference between a "digital" camera and a DSLR is going away rapidly.
The next generation of affordable digital cameras may even be able to do light filtering electronically.
Short story, if your camera is taking high quality photos and you like the result, don't sweat if it's an official "DSLR" or not.
