17 to 16 rims for the winter? and more...

Hypothetically speaking, would my 33d allow me to go to 16 rims for the winter or will it not fit over the brakes? Also, besides the speed correction calc, is there a good place to check what the max safe width reduction would be? Would stock 225 to 205 be ok on 17? What about on the 16? Also, the 17 rims are 17x8, as I understand. What 16, if they fit, also need to be 16x8?

thanks

16" wheels do not clear the brakes on the 335i, sorry.
