In a straight line, with throttle control you will get the power to the ground. It's not like the stock suspension with open diff won't be any faster with a jb4...

Very easy. Do a search, but the quick version of what I posted is to use a thin plastic card (like a store loyalty card), one that is very flxible. You can work it into the seam from the front, pressing it in and it will bend around the "lip" between the panel and the reflector. Once it's in there, you can then gently slide it to break loose the 3M double-sided adhesive they use. It will pop right out (into the wheel well), and then you can clean up around the inside and put in the new ones. They come with the tape pre-applied, so all you need is a clean surface.
The trick is to be careful on the edge nearest the wheelwell, where the plastic body panel is just a thin strip. You definitely don't want to break that part. Some people use a blow dryer or heat gun to soften up the adhesive - usng the card method, it took me 10 minutes on the first one to get it out (going very slow and deliverate) and then 5 minutes on the second (knew what I was doing). Edit: did the search for you - here ya go: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=575552 Last edited by andrew b; 11-24-2012 at 02:35 PM. |

If not for the tires, I'd let them go for way less :<

I just ordered some 17x8 Kosei K4R LT with 225/45R-17 Kumho Ecsta 4x all around. Will post pics soon, may not be the best lookers but should be ~40lbs per corner.
They are brake dust grey and are offer good performance for an affordable street tire + will only cost $450 for the new tires when I shred the set. I tend to get through tires every 10K miles in rwd cars so cost of tires is important to me. I run Kumho Ecsta 4xs on my MX-5 at track days (am a Novice) and AutoX; not a bad tire. 17" rims means less risk of pothole damage which lets me drive the BMW in the city; no way would 18" or 19" rims last long in downtown or midtown!

Tire rack has 17" Winter Packages for the 335i. Gets pricey with TPMS sensors, shipping and tax though.

That's incorrect. I've got 17" wheels on my 2008 E93 sport package. They fit just fine.

However, it's not just outside wheel dimension. Wheel fitment is such a pain because there are so many ways for wheels to not fit. So not all 17" wheels are guaranteed to fit. To me the best thing about Tirerack is that they do so much fitment testing. It really helps remove some guesswork.

True. I'm running BMW wheels because they're a guaranteed fit, and they're cheap. I can't vouch for aftermarket wheels.

Aftermarkets are hit and miss indeed. Usually you can search around and find enough opinion to make some safe bets. For example, I picked up Rial Salernos as my 17" winters based on comments on this forum, and haven't regretted it. I would recommend picking up 5 wheels if possible though. Wheels are often a limited run, making it hard to match the set if you crack one.

Good point on the extra wheel, though I've never done it not have I damaged a wheel since I was eighteen (24 years ago now). I do have an extra wheel semi-handy at home for my cars without spare wheels - if I get an unfix-able flat the wife can bring one to me or worst case courier/ship it if I am out of town.

Quick update, I picked up my 335i this past monday and i must say, i love it. It is damn fast and i havent been in any other car that gets you to 120 so quick AND makes it seem like youre only going 80.
I did order BMS DCI and they will be on soon. Snow tires were picked up yesterday, got some blizzaks. So far i am very satisfied with the car. great purchase! |
