1992 325is starter?

I have a 92 325is with about 173,000 miles on it. Recently my cluster went out and I got it checked and they said that I just needed a new one but it drove fine.

I drive 45 miles each way to and from work 5 days a week so my car gets miles on it. I drove it for two weeks with my dash flashing at me. Then yesterday I went to get in it and turned the key and nothing happened. There was no resistance and the key wouldn't turn back when I let it go. It just stayed forward. The power steering was gone, the brakes were stiff, there was no noise or clicking, etc. My battery still worked because the dash was blinking.

Is this my alternator, or starter or something else. Please help!
