Brake pads need changing ...which ones to buy???
Hi All,
Ok so just bought my second Bmw E46 but upgraded this time from the baby 318CI Coupe to the 330CI Msport Convertible on a 2001 Y reg. Break pads are at the limit and been offered a few choices...Jarid - Mintex - and some really cheap and nasty budget rubbish Any opinions on this...Car just for road use and not thrashed around, have my little ones in the car though so want good safe stopping power! Cheers |

Mintex is good. I was wondering if you guys have Wagner in the EU? Have had good luck with them. Also liked Brembo on my older Nissan, but those are too expensive for the BMW IMO.

I'm running Hawk Ceramics. No complaints so far, other than they can get squeaky at times. Dust isn't TOO bad, but it's more of a brown dust than a grey or black dust.

Porterfield R4S Carbon Kevlar, friction grade- FG/GG (OEM BMW pads- FF), OEM bite, no dust, higher thermal resistance, better stopping power.

I just replaced my stock rotors and pads with new Zimmerman blanks and Axxis XBG (formerly MetalMasters) pads, and am a little disappointed. I made the switch because Turner claimed the XBGs have performance on par with stock pads, but much less dust. Well, after bedding in the new pads and rotors and changing the brake fluid, I can tell you the performance is not as good as stock. That great initial bite is gone, and it takes more push on the pedal to get the same amount of stopping. I've gone about 300 miles on them so far, and repeated the bedding procedure, with no improvement. They will stop, of course, and if I wanted to I could activate the ABS, but the nice, strong bite is gone. But hey, my wheels are cleaner, FWIW.

I'm happy with my Jurids. They're an OE supplier. Nice bite and no fading but tons of dust as trade-off.
