Its really simple, you dont get a BMW to save money, thats like running a supercomputer to use google. Just get a used honda or a jeep like me

Some people just like to make the most frugal decision they can. So, while not spending $100-200 a month extra on the car of your choice is not (or should not be) a huge deal for someone who likes to drive around in cars costing $50+ thousand dollars, it does pay the airfare for another trip to Europe, or wherever.

Exactly. $2400/year buys a lot of nice alternatives to new car smell.

I saved more like $40k vs your $64,000 10-year lease numbers. No, the $21,000 figure is if you use correct numbers like I told you many times:

10-year old $50k car trade-in value = $6000, not $3000
Cash purchase price for your $540/month lease = $45k, not $50k.

It's pretty lame to fudge numbers just to make your lease look better.

E92 looks ok with M Sport, you're off the hook then.

Performance looks more interesting - I'm not really a fan of the E92 M3's diffuser either, the Performance probably looks the best of the 3.

Is the Jetta photo to show that every car nowadays has a rear diffuser and dual exhaust. I think these rear diffusers started showing up on hot hatches and STI/EVOs before BMWs anyway, what are you gonna do?

$15k-20k savings on purchase vs. leasing sounds believable if the car is kept for 10-15 years. Let's say the old beater is worth 10% of original price, so the cost was 90%. For the same car leased 4 times, with a residual of 67%, the cost is 33%*4=132%. So the purchase has roughly 40% savings. It is true to maintain a late model bimmer can cost $10k to 100+k miles out of warranty, however lease ends also cost some money, say, $2-3k(tires, excess miles, dings and such), so it can be a wash.

I'll go ahead and add some time-value-of-money for the deposit I put down, as well as the $500 fee I paid to my dealer for the private party tax swap situation, so we can round up the $541/month to an even $600 for ya.

So, now I've "leased" a $76K MSRP M3 for $600/month for a solid year. Tell me again how I'd do this via a traditional lease, instead of financing? I'm getting into my ActiveHybrid 3 for $10K under MSRP, so maybe I'll do the same thing and keep that one for 12 months, maybe I'll keep it longer. The traditional finance method gives me ridiculous flexibility.

You haven't listed any of the actual information that matters. A lease would have also gotten the huge savings due to ED and also often a 61k selling price. The 3500 tax credit as well. But as you have not read my previous post obviously as you are describing a non typical sale, I will try to explain the answer in your case.

Give me the following. Cap cost reduction plus total drive off. Give me your interest rate as you keep saying you are financing. Give me the length of term and I will be able to properly review.

i know thats why i got the performance diffuser, so it didnt look like a jetta or a merc

Drive off price $70,763
Cap cost reduction (technically this is a down payment, but probably should be referred to as a MSD since I got it back) $21K
Amount financed, $50K @ 2.49% 60 months (rates are lower, now). I paid $963 in interest over the 12 months. Go ahead and add that to my drive off price of $70,763 for a total of $71,726. Selling price of $61K plus tax credit of $3500 towards any new vehicle still nets an out of pocket of $602.66/month for 12 months. Add my $500 dealer fee in there, I'm still under $650 a month.

There is no way you're leasing a $76K M3 for under $650/month, for a 12 month term. But I did! BTW, how much is your lease per month?

This is not a non-typical sale. This how to buy/sell cars, smartly.

how did you get 21k in MSDs? I thought they only allowed 7 MSDs.

I did a traditional finance. Member MonkeyCMonkeyDo was referring to my deal in "lease" terms like cap cost reduction, etc. So I referenced the $21K in a lease term like MSD, even though it was a down payment.

My whole example is in lease-terms, but of course it was a very traditional finance.

I give this example to show just how flexible traditional financing can be. I was out $650/month for a $76K car, and I could have kept it 8 months, 12 months (which I did), 24 months, etc. The point is that it was my choice to keep the car for a very short time, and the financial costs for doing so was ridiculously low.

If someone can explain how a lease would have fit this situation better, I'm all ears. Until then, I'm going to keep "buying" like this cause it is fun, flexible and puts me under little obligation.
