Update 11/29:
Replaced old busted Bridgestone EL42 for Michelin Primacy MXM4 ZP Run Flats ($147/each on tirerack as of 11/29). Yes run flats. The Michelin with Bilsteins now ride like a normal car albeit stiffer due to run flats. No weird sounds, no explosions, just a normal sounding car. Handling has greatly improved due to refresh shocks/struts. Summary: You dont need to go as far as FSD to get a decent ride. Talking in relative terms, the Bilstein B4 are better then stock period. Getting rid of old run flats for newer generation run flats improves the ride further. Are FSDs better then the Bilstein B4? I dont know as I dont have two cars to test, but I sure hope so as they are twice the material cost. Are the Bilstein B4 better then spec'd shocks/struts that came from the factory? Yes. As far as I'm concerned, consumer has 2 good suspension options that improve what BMW put on the car from the factory. Its a matter of how far you want to go to improve the ride. |
