Noise after shutdow
Guys, I need a little help on a noise that I'm hearing after shutting down the engine. i have a 2001 330i (e46). Here's a link to the sound file to hear what I'm talking about......The sound is around 6 seconds in and again at 22.
Any thoughts appreciated! Last edited by jwchi; 11-30-2012 at 07:46 AM. |

Might be better to do a YouTube video of the sound... I, for one, am not downloading a file from your Google docs.

The woosh sound is your CCV letting off vacuum pressure. It's normal - mine's done it for as long as I can remember. If it starts to sound like a fog horn, chewbacca, dying duck, then it's clogged and needs replacing. Most people replace around 80-100k as preventive maint as they tend to clog and the hoses get brittle and leak.

So, since mine doesn't make this noise at shutdown, is this a sign that mine has a defect?

Not necessarily.....the sure sign of a bad CVV is when that "whoosh" sound turns more to a foghorn noise. There are tests you can perform to test yours out and directions are either in the WIKI or can be found by searching similar threads on this site.
