Msport Black exhaust tips VS Silver
Hey guys, I have a 640i coupe with Msport, and My cousin has a 640i cab with Msport...My exhaust tips have a silver finish, but his tips have a black finish. Ive noticed some of the Msport 640s have silver tips, others have black. Can anybody explain why? Does it mean anything?

I'm wondering too. My posse thinks I should change out the black chrome on mine to regular chrome. Don't know how to go about it.

Not sure about the 640's but on the 650, you get the black tips with M-Sport and chrome tips with the standard package. At least that's what BMWNA advertised on the "Build Your Own"
I had a non M-Sport 650 cab that had the chrome tips and my now 650 M-Sport coupe has the black tips. Last edited by Itinj6; 11-10-2012 at 01:09 PM. |

Thats true, but this is a mystery on 640i with Msport, some have black some have silver, I know on the 640i you don't get a sportier exhaust with the Msport, but on the 650I you do... So that cant be the case

Curiously, is the M exhaust in the 650i mpkg the same as the M performance exhaust system for 640i available from BmW? If so, is there a noticeable sound or time difference and how much of it is the 8 vs the 6?

These cars and BMW are one giant mystery. We've debated the M-Sport vs standard Exhaust for several months lol. |

As far as your second question, my original 650 without M-Sport was extremely quiet so I would also say that not much of it comes from the difference between 6 cyl and 8 cyl, as far as sound goes. What do you mean by time difference, though? |

No idea what the deal is - maybe a mid-year production change they didn't publicize?
Here's a pic of an early Imola 640d. Not that this solves anything, but it looks chrome here...

Interesting thread, since the black exhaust tips are the one thing I don't like about the M sport pkg. Has anyone been able to change them to chrome?

Yes, but I changed the exhaust as well! Axle-back exhaust system for $640.00 from Driven By Style in Ca. Sounds terrific. No CELs, vibrations or drone. The tips look as though they are about 4"!!! Couldnt be happier. No need to "prop up" Dinan and their outrageous pricing structure.

Sounds cool - love to see a few pics. Since you dealt with the M sport exhaust, can you tell me if just the finishers can be swapped out? |

That kind of sucks about the tip swap. Unusual as most finishers are removable. Maybe there's a way they can be chromed or wrapped. Love to hear if anybody has done something like that. |
