Non dimming rear view mirror

Hi all,

My rear view mirror has stopped dimming and is getting right on my pip. Any ideas?

Hopefully it's just a power connection issue, a new mirror goes for about $500.

Does your clown nose LED blink red when the alarm is set? Do you have the garage door openers on the mirror which you could test for power?

You can split the cover on the mirror and check for loose connections. Instructions from the TIS.

In the US I would recommend www.radar-mirror.com They replaced the glass in mine for less than 1/5 of the cost of replacing the whole thing and now it looks and works perfectly.

It was not auto dimming as it should and the fluid between the glass layers was discolored.

If you end up having to replace the mirror look in to replacing it with the built in compass. I have it in my e39 5 Series & it's a nice addition. You can also get it with built in programmable infrared remote controls for automatic gates & garage doors. These are OEM BMW mirrors, not aftermarket crap.

I think I have the same issue. My power is fine bit I don't think it's dimming. I'll look into the glass replacement too.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have a check of the power cables, but the alarm dome does work so I assume it's the glass.

Cheers again chaps. I found a spare at a breakers and £36 later I have it fitted and all is OK.

+1 there are plenty of these car at the breakers now!!! Sad but true!!! The wing mirrors also go the same way....
