Considering a 1991 850i or 1996 740il, any advice out there

I am looking for a nice 740I or an 850i any advice out there on which is better I'm wondering if the maintenance on the 850i is a constant situation or if they are reliable, don't see too many around.

There aren't many 8's around. I've had only the usual wear items, considering my car had 147k on the clock when I picked it up 15mo ago. New front steering components, new front struts/lowering springs, a couple rear ball joints, radiator & hoses, etc. No more maintenance on an 8 than other BMW's. Some parts are now obsolete (some interior trim etc). Later M73 V-12s have worthwhile upgrades, plus the 5spd auto is a nice upgrade.

i have both...I really like 7 but like the 8 a million times better. However, When something breaks on the 8, be prepared to pay. Not as many used parts and options like the 7 would give you.

I love the 840CSI it is the best BMW i have owned its just got the looks 1995.

Get an 8 if you can find one so the rest of us 8 owners have someone else to talk to. I have had BMWs since 1993. I loved them all and the 8 is no disappointment. I get lots of questions. Lots of folks have never seen one. I like driving cars other folks don't have so if for no other reason, buy an 8 for the simple fun of seeing all the looks it gets.
