Yep, I can pretty much guarantee they won't be offering lead/follow laps next year. Was a very stupid idea. I also saw a number of people getting sideways in the parking lot with thousands of cars tightly packed in with people (including lots of children) everywhere. Totally unacceptable behavior. But when you have a flat-brim hat and lip piercings, you apparently lack more than sound aesthetic judgement...

I know. I love those 240s... I really want one of my own. Owner said the transmission snapped and was laying on the ground, frame bent, etc. Thing is long gone.

Yeah, the value of the Volvo is basically nothing, and if he did have money invested into it, I doubt he'll recoup any of it. Many people with project cars invest huge amounts of cash into cars which on paper are not worth anything and then don't claim the mods on their insurance policy so they don't have to pay a higher monthly premium. It's all good, until it isn't... Apparently the Volvo was his DD, and his other car is a B7 Audi of some sort.

No, but the Volvo had a "stay slideways" sticker across the windshield. A little irony in there somewhere...

Woot!
![]() I think I found the credit union to finance my daily driver. Just joined Pentagon Federal, if you don't have military affiliation they allow you to join if you donate $20 to the National Military Family Association, so I did that and opened a $5 savings account. They offer rates *as low as* 1.49%, no age restriction on the vehicle, must be under 125k miles. (My current CU requires that it be less than 5 model years old and have less than 70k miles) Time to start test driving stuff I guess, although I still want to wait until I get my salary offer after the holidays. If I don't buy a car until then, exactly what I expect will happen and I can go buy my $9k daily driver. If I do buy a car, according to Murphy's Law, one of two things will happen, I won't get the job at all and I'll be stuck with two cars I can't afford, OR, I'll get $20k/yr more than I expect and could afford a much nicer daily.

Fixed rate? Also, I imagine the only way you're going to get close to their "as low as 1.49%" is if you buy a $25k+ car.

You guys are going to kill me but I'm seriously considering picking up another Saab. In the interest of sanity and financial responsibility I know I should focus on getting a turn-key, cheap to own, cheap to fix daily driver. But something like a TL, TSX or Accord would be such a dull, sterile driving experience, and something like a WRX or Mazda3 would be like driving a tin can with doors. I still like Audis but someone finally talked me out of the 1.8T because they are so complicated and so wimpy in stock form anyway. I'll think about an E46 but I already have a 3.0L RWD manual trans BMW, and buying a second would seem redundant. I've grown to like Mercedes more and more, but the ones I want I can't afford and the ones I can afford I don't want. HOWEVER, the 05-07 Saab 9-3 Aero 2.8t checks all the boxes. In the right price range, well optioned, 250hp, 6spd manual, 27mpq. So far as I can tell, its more reliable than something from VAG, and no worse than a bimmer. As DF mentioned the timing belt service is a big pain in the ass, but you can plan for those. There is a black one about an hour from me, if its still there this weekend I'm going to go test drive it.EDIT: Yes, but you're right, I don't expect my rate to be anything close to that, but my friend just refinanced her 2006 330i (with like a $17k balance) with them for 1.49%, so the rate on a $9-10k loan should be fair.

I love the S60 R so hard, however, its a Haldex AWD system, which apparently likes to break and only engages the back wheels when it detects slip at the front anyway. It also has a fully adjustable air suspension setup, which its totally awesome but very problematic and very expensive, apparently worse than the Mercedes airmatic suspension.

Make sure the S60 does not use the same transmission as the V70 (I suspect it does, however). Back before I bought my E36, I was a hair away from buying a V70 XC (cross country), but after scratching the surface on my research, I found that with almost 100% consistency, the transmissions fail in the ballpark of 100k miles, and cost in the neighborhood of $4k to replace. Since the ones I was looking at were in the 75-100k mile range, I quickly threw that idea out.

I approve, although they lost some of their quirkiness by the mid 00s as they became more GM-ified. I'm looking at older 9-3s and possibly 9-5s but mostly just based on budget. Don't really wanna spend more than 2-2500 on it as it's just for going betwixt train and work and sitting in parking lots all day. Sent from my LG Revolution 4G using BimmerApp
