As some of you might know, I tend to travel quite a bit for work, usually on American Airlines. On a flight back home from Boston to LA on August 31st, I saw an article about the Road Warrior essay contest that the inflight magazine, American Way, holds each year. It was the last day to enter, and I didn't feel like working, so I figured I'd give it a go. I'm definitely NOT a writer, but apparently someone at American Way must have felt sorry for a barely literate geek because I was chosen as one of the five finalists.

Out of those finalists, the Grand Prize Winner is chosen via online voting during the month of November, and I'd really appreciate your vote. Just as an added bonus, if I win the Grand Prize, I'll donate a $1,000 to a charity that you help choose via a webpage that I have set up, AND an additional $100 to the forum that has the most people voting for me.

It definitely is! I'm normally the person that says "Who wins these things?!?! Real people don't..." So it kinda weirds me out that I'm going to be in a magazine and I'm getting all this stuff for fr.... the cost of income tax of the prize.

I've flown 168,525 miles YTD, but that's still only 69 segments! Do you have a lot of connections?

yes, it was a strange month. Four hours in one city, with no ability to schedule based on my travel- one day in ATL then lax then dtw then phx, back to Bo's, home to smf on Friday. Out Sunday to ewr..rinse and repeat. Generally each leg had a connection. Only 148k, but 126 segments....

If it weren't for gogoinflight I'd be nuts!

Yeah, I was somewhat curious what the overlap between those two communities might be. I know one of the flight attendants on the LAX-BOS route is a car guy with a fox body mustang that he works on.

I've also sat next to a guy reading Roundel once so we talked about Bimmers for a bit. On the whole, however, I don't meet as many car enthusiasts on the plane as I would expect.

Speaking of car guys on planes...I say next to a guy from BMW corporate (BMWAG). Very, very senior. Pissing and moaning about crappy first class on the US domestic. Boy did he have some pictures... "you cant get this here" and "you can't get that here" and "I drove this development car for a month" ... jaw dropping actually. Yet ask him a question about anything under the hood and nothing.

This will be the 2nd to last time I bump this thread. I'll do one more on Nov 28, and that's it.
