My 540i/6 wont rev!
Hello!
The problems continue with my 540i/6... All of a sudden he refuses to rev higher than 800-1200 rpm, no matter how far u press the pedal... Otherwise there are no other symptoms, except perhaps that I think it is ticking a little from this section: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/832/bmwm62b44.jpg/ Any suggestions?? with best regards Adam |

Okay, report the stored codes. We are not clairvioant.
I believe that device is the purge valve for the vapor recovery system, and I think it buzzes periodically. Mine doesn't have one like that.

Yes, that is a purge valve for the charcoal canister that is above the left rear wheel liner.
It has nothing to do with why your engine won't rev. Have you checked the ACS throttle body that is just past the MAF to see if it is fully open?

What year is the 540? If its 99 or later its drive by wire and most likly the gas pedal part or the TB.

The vapors are stored in the charcoal canister that is above the left rear wheel. The purge valve sucks the vapors out of this tank.
Back to the rev problem. What happens if you operate the throttle linkage under the hood by hand? Have you tried that? Also look at the traction control throttle body butterfly, it should be wide open.

Yep, it is the same as when pressing the pedal, so i guess that the problem isnt anywere between there. You mean this part? http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/28/bmwm62b44.jpg/ I havent checked that yet, i guess that is the second thing after unplug MAF sensor to do? |

Yes, that part you just circled is the secondary throttle plate that is controlled by the ASC.
Will it rev to higher RPM's in neutral?
