Security system 07-335

when I was at the BMW palace today, I asked the Service guy did my car, 2007 335i Convertable have a security system, he looked up the VIN number and his answer no, but it was wired for one he said, At only 700.00 I can have it installed, and I bet that doesn't include installation, My question, I bet the car cost $50,000 or there abouts new, Why wouldnt a security system be a standard on these high priced cars?

I have a 2010 toyota 4Runner limited and a security system is standard, and as a matter of fact every 4 runner I have owned from 1996, 2003 and the current 2010, the security system was standard,

Because people stopped paying attention to car alarms going off in the mid 90's?

You an do it way more cheaply if you can DIY it.
The kit is under 300 bucks from tischer BMW and you can either code it
your self or find one of the many people that do coding to enable it.

The only way that your car is going to be stolen is with a flatbed. Your alarm wouldnt do anything to prevent that.
They did have a few stolen cars with dummy fobs in Europe, I think. If its not in the states yet, probably will be soon.....

I had a 3-series stolen in Europe (probably dummy fob). Bought a 3-series over here, no alarm. I just don't believe anybody does anything about a car alarm going off...
