Mazda 6 was one of the cars I was considering before deciding on the BMW. I drove a rather decked out one and basically knew in a block or two that no way I'd enjoy how that car rides. I could not look at a Mazda 6 as a serious competitor to any BMW offering but that is just me.

Obviously a Mazda is not going to have the same driving dynamics as a BMW. However, that is a really attractive looking car. a big improvement over the current design. My wife has a Mazda3 and it's a pretty good little car,

Interesting enough the reason I had a Mazda 6 on my list back then was because spent a fair amount of time in a Mazda 3. For some reason I did not like the 6 at all and that was before I even thought of an Infiniti which means long before I ever thought of a BMW as an option. I could see though the Mazda 6 being a good alternative for some people to a Passat or Jetta, which ever is the proper one to be comparing too. Matter of fact I'd probably try looking at a 6 diesel if ever considering the VW again.

There is no denying Mazda is not going to have the same driving dynamics as a BMW. I'm simply giving kudos to Mazda for having the balls to bring a diesel sedan to North America. There is no alternative at the moment if you are looking for mid-size + sedan other than VW & MB. I'm willing to sacrifice some driving dynamic for a bigger diesel sedan because baby #3 will be arriving in a month or so.

It might make a decent commuter.

I think you will be sacrificing a lot more than "some" driving dynamics. But does all boil down to an individuals preferences. I'd just look into a gasser.

There was some noise about that diesel also going in to their new MX5 SUV -- now THAT I would be interested in. Obviously not the same dynamics as the X3 but at about half the cost (or two thirds) it is worth considering.

F10d is on track for introduction when F10 LCI goes on sale next year
That being said, I'm curious on if Mazda has a dual-clutch tranny they're going to offer with it Lots of new diesels should be out in the next couple years. GLK, C, A6, A7, A8, Q5, 5, 3, 7, X3, next gen X5, next gen Q7, new A3, MK7 Golf, next gen Tiguan, new 3-row VW crossover, Chevy Cruze, Caddy ATS, Mazda 6

You forgot the Jeep GC and (perhaps) the RAM 1500 -- the Jeep for sure though.

A4 had been rumoured to go TDI in NA once the new body style comes out in 2014 model year. I had wanted the slightly larged size that the A4 has as compared to the 2009-2011 E90. When I found out i would have to wait another 3 years, I said forget it and got the 335D. There have been A4 rumours since 2008 concerning TDI and I'm not holding my breath on the coming 2014 A4. Besides, the F30 now has the same 110" wheel base as the A4 if they would only get on with making an F30 based 335 diesel.

I too have waited on diesel vehicles that were announced to come and then never did make it here. So I firmly am planted in the "will believe it when I physically see it" mentality.
