Aftermarket outside temp gauge - need help

I have a base-model Z3, no heated seats, no dash computer, just the analog clock. I calculate mpg with my iPhone, but I'd like to keep an eye on the outside temperature. I'm throwing this question out just to see if someone else has tried this.

I purchased a very nice temperature gauge that is velcro-ed into the niche just to the right of the steering column opposite the fog light switch. It has a long attached wire at the end of which is the temperature probe, approximately 1/4" in diameter. The probe is currently inserted into the space inside the dash, allowing warm interior air to show an elevated temperature.

QUESTION: How to route the wire+probe from beneath the dash to a spot exposed to exterior air without cutting into sheet metal. I would obviously prefer that the gauge show exterior temperature.
