Dealer delivers wrong car !

How often do you think this happens?

I just hear from a friend that works at a dealership about a salesman that delivered the wrong car to a lady who drove it for a week, putting 100 miles on it before they realized the mistake. All of her paperwork was correct including her correct VIN, but she actually drove a different and uninsured car all that time.

The cars where swapped back and the car was re- delivered to the correct owner a few days later without the new owner being any the wiser.

Vern, They have all probably done this at one point or another!! Lol

Has never happened to us on a new BMW.

We always check the VIN before signing the sales contract. I've had the VIN on the car not match the VIN on the paperwork twice.


Maybe this should be in ask a dealer??

No harm no foul (SP?). (As long as the state doesn't hear about it. In MD that would be a MAJOR problem.)

Happened to us recently actually. Two blue Corolla's parked right next to eachother, plates ONE number apart. Customers took delivery of the wrong vehicles and they had to come back and switch, weirdest part......the people turned out to have known eachother a long time ago, long lost friends I guess!!

I've also seen a customer drive off with no plate. Not discovered until hours later when the police pulled them over, car impounded, big issue.

And me personally, I was handed the wrong lease plates (same car, no name on the registration, should have checked the VIN) and had a customer drive off. We figured it out when they came back for an inspection sticker. She was more mad that she had already remembered the plate number.

What brand? A little hard to imagine this happening with a Bimmer, 'cause they're not all the same.
