Rear bumper protection

We have a X3 23i 2013. Does anyone have any knowledge whether it is possible to install over the existing rear bumper an aluminum insert to provide additional protection to the underside of the bumper. We were told at the dealership that you would have to change the whole bumper to one that includes this piece but looking at a brochure for the x3, 2012, included in the accessory section is a picture and explanation of a "satin aluminum insert for rear bumper". Has anyone enquired about this?

If so, they also have them in silver and they attach with double backed adhesive. I've read about a couple of people who have put them on and it took them just a few minutes. If not, then you must be talking about the x-line pro styling kit as seen in these photo's:

That would take some work as you can see from his write up.
