steering wheel removal
86 325 -I am planning to switch the stock steering wheel with the three spoke type found on the M3 and the ES-anyone happen to know what size socket fits over the nut under the emblem? I was screwing around in the junkyard today and couldn't seem to find the right size. Second, is it an easy switch with the horn wiring? Last, I bought a steering wheel puller-did I need to do that? It was only 14.95 at Advance...so I can take it back.

21mm and you don't need a puller. I just pop out the center emblem, take off the nut, turn the key in the switch and pull it off. I would insure that your wheels are good and straight, before pulling the wheel though.

you can use the wheel spanner that is wat i always use,remove the center emblem with flat screw driver remove the nut and swith the key on and pull it out.

It's a 22mm socket, you should also use a torque wrench and tighten to 56 lb/ft

LOL. I'm guilty of the same charge. But when it adds to the discussion it makes life so much easier. I was searching yesterday for information on changing the steering wheel, and this thread notes 21, 22 mm and lug wrench sizes (my lug wrench is a 17!). If you have a complete socket set it's no big deal, but if you have to buy one, it's a PITA to get the wrong one.
From all appearances it looks like you can swap steering wheels among E30s without adapters as long as airbags don't figure into the equation. That's neat! Cheers!
