buying a scan tool...Peake??

My 328i is a late year 2000. it has the obd under the dash like the 2001 to 2007. so which one do i buy? Looking at the Peake scan tool. I found out that bmw changed mid year 2000 to the dash hook-up. I think i'm posta go with the newer type. Right?????

Assuming that year can use the BMW Scanner 1.4.0, I'd buy that. About 1/5th the price, and you can program with it too.

I bought a Peake tool about a year ago and it's paid for itself many times over.

+1
I have one and love it. Paid for itself with coding the LCM to disable DRLs and code xenons.
After that several instances of SES, alarm coding and what not.

You can even see live data.

However, if you have a 20 pin connector under the bonnet you will need a 20 pin to 8 pin adapter as well for the bmw scanner 1.4 to work with your car.

Harbor Freight has some good OBDII scanners. I scored a $130 model for $70 during the black Friday deals.

BMW scanner 1.4 is $33 and can code the car too. Adapter may be around $10. Much worth the investment if you plan to keep the car for longer time.
